It was reported this morning that Bob Mueller has subpoenaed Donald Trump's bank records from the Deutsche Bank. The bank has said that they will cooperate with the subpoena. This is the same bank that was fined $600 million dollars for money laundering last year.
With this action by the Special Prosecutor, all-out war has been declared by the Trump White House. FOX News has started a full assault on Mueller and his "unfair" and illegitimate investigation. They are calling it a "scam". The WSJ, also, came out today with an editorial against Mueller. They are asking that he step down.
Also, the Trump White House is consolidating his support with the Republicans in the House and Senate. In the end, they are the ones that can protect him from Bob Mueller's investigation. So long as he can keep them corralled, he has little fear from the Democrats or the Special Prosecutor.
But, the narrative has changed since a day or two ago. Bob Mueller is under serious threat from the Trump White House. Trump's goal is to change the minds of those Republicans that defended the integrity of Bob Mueller when this investigation first begun?
Trump had earlier stated that any investigation of his finances would be the "red line" which he would not tolerate. Mueller has now crossed that "red line", it appears?
Democrats, and the media, should get all Republicans on record as to where they stand on the Mueller investigation. If they don't, Trump will.

(182,829 posts)From what I've read and heard about Mueller he probably sees this as his closing act. His last big stand for the DoJ and the country as a whole. I find it unlikely he's going to go without a fight.

(17,984 posts)Suppose a grand jury or fed judge decides Mueller has exceeded the scope of his investigation? What then? That sort of thing could be a serious black eye for Mueller.

That claim has reared its ugly head once more. My point is that I can imagine an instance where Mueller seeks an indictment and is refused because someone believes cause exceeds the scope of Mueller's investigation. I can also see how, if/when this is brought to trial, some of the information Mueller obtained is thrown out because it exceeds the scope of the investigation.
I'm not saying this would right or even legal. What I'm saying is that I can see how all this dirt throwing could influence someone to think this way.
