It offers a sick kind of validation to their behavior. It lets them say history is written by the winners. And they won't let that go. Ever.

Then again, the FBI never should have taken up the investigation to begin with. If the State Department had something they wanted to look into they should have done it themselves. And, certainly, the FBI should not have responded to requests from Republican congressional committees.
