ATLANTA Kasim Reed, a lawyer and former state legislator, was elected mayor of Atlanta by a margin of 714 votes, according to a recount of last weeks vote that concluded on Wednesday afternoon.
His opponent, Mary Norwood, a City Council member, requested the recount, which failed to reverse the outcome of last weeks runoff election. Under Georgia law, a recount is permitted when the margin of victory is less than 1 percent of the total vote. Ms. Norwood conceded the race after the recount confirmed her loss.

(8,138 posts)6. Kiesha is up to her neck in a corruption probe.
The new city council president is a relentless fighter for transparency (some would say she doesn't know when to back off).
This should be interesting, but I suspect it will be ugly for a while.
I heard that Kiesha wrote a check for $300,000 to the Dem Party of Ga. The Dem Party of Ga supported her.
Norwood calls herself an independent. She's been on city council for a while.

(14,536 posts)7. OMG! Stop the presses!
The Dem party supported the Dem candidate over the Independent. Now the city council, with the losing candidate is going to stir shit.
