(5,210 posts)It was a bunch of SENATORS this morning -- how is that the DNC? They don't take orders from the DNC.
What am I missing?

(5,210 posts)I think it's called poltical expediency -- or what he assumes is political expediency. My guess is he has badly miscalculated.

(7,647 posts)Democratic National Committee Chairman Tom Perez joined a flood of Democratic senators on Wednesday calling for Sen. Al Franken, D-Minn., to resign amid multiple sexual misconduct allegations.
"Sen. Al Franken should step down," Perez tweeted. "Everyone must share the responsibility of building a culture of trust and respect for women in every industry and workplace, and that includes our party."

This is NOT improving my opinion on Perez one iota

(1,606 posts)Gee, ya think Ellison would have helped to railroad Al outta office??
Yeah, that's what I thought... absolutely disgusting what is happening right now. Sigh.

(5,210 posts)I was furious with Perez and furious with the Dem Senators -- yadayada -- and Tom Perez needs to stand up to the Republicans instead of attacking our Dems, dammit.

What a farkin' nightmare. Here we are trying to fight the daily outrageous from Trump that are literally destroying our country and our government and now we have to fight our own political party too?

(94,635 posts)FWIW, there's nothing DNC can do with your opinion. You could provide it to DSCC, but Franken isn't up for election next year.

(7,647 posts)What measures were taken to ensure fairness of treatment before he was asked to resign? Seems to me if the head of the DNC is asking for a democratic senator to step down, that is a very powerful statement and the DNC should know what the voters think about it.
So you think contacting the DSCC would be more effective? Has the head of the DSCC made a statement?

(1,606 posts)But I think calling the DNC is great. I did leave them a nice polite message and sent them an email.
Told 'em no more $$$ from us if they continue, not like they care about my little peanuts. Maybe if I were a big 'ole corporation I'd have more luck making them give a shit, huh???
We do need to show Al our support, this is beyond stupid.

(7,647 posts)If not, should we assume he is guilty until proven innocent?
Somehow, the accusations against him do not seem to be in the same class as those against Dump or Moore. And, there seems to be evidence of swiftboating going on in this case.
That's what I think, fwiw...

(34,066 posts)to clarify:
i do not want him to resign due to bandwagon calls for his resignation based on a fucking unnamed source that said he tried to kiss her after his radio show in 2006
omg!!!

(7,647 posts)What I don't get...is that the punishment doesn't fit the crime. If the accusations against Franken are true, he could have been sent to a "sensitivity rehab" retreat or something and stayed in office. It's all so severe -- like the 3-strikes laws in CA.
