I will just speak colloquially. The Democrats are making a bet that people in the middle care about this shit. The Democrats have made a calculus that the Deplorables, i.e. Republicans are so far gone into delirium and delusion they would vote for Charlie Manson's rotting corpse if it had an (R) after its name. *


"We aren't like the Deplorables" is a damn good issue for the roughly 2/3 of americans who aren't.
