If Franken Resigns...

Dayton will have to call a special election in Minnesota, to fill that Senate seat.

If so, and every woman in the DFL said "I WANT AL FRANKEN TO BE MY SENATOR" he'd probably win the DFL primary.

And he might even win the general election as well.

Which is interesting to think about.

speculatively,
Bright

With Minnesota turning purple - Hillary carried it by only 1.5% - this is not a safe seat regardless of whether the replacement is a man, a woman, gay or Muslim, African American or Native American. Take your pick.

Gov. Dayton can, I believe, appoint someone to fill out the seat until the next election primary, and then we nominate a candidate. Whomever wins that election serves out the remainder of his term.

So we'll get the seat for less than a year. The GOP is going to throw everything they have at this election. They're determined to turn Minnesota into Western Wisconsin.

At least, that's my interpretation of the rules listed here.

I could totally be wrong, though.

And don't forget Tangeranus lost this state by...1.5%? So it's totally within reach for them to snag the seat within a year.
