(31,828 posts)It would only be through January 2019 - i.e. 2018. Seat is up in November next year.

(15,386 posts)For instance, you order food in a restaurant, and the waiter doesn't bring you a telephone book that's on fire.
I'd like a little bit more of that in my life with maybe some irony thrown in so I'm pulling for Elayne Boosler.
But I'd also take Kathy Griffin in a pinch.

(6,288 posts)If "enough is enough" then appt a woman to this seat.
That is the fairest way to replace Franken, considering this whole thing is about women.
A solid Dem should be chosen to replace solid Dem voice in the Senate.
Do Not step outside our Party.
There are 6 great Dem women in MN govt.
Betty McCollum is my choice.
Put the man/woman issue to rest.
Our Revolution also supports a man who, at age 30, believed in his writings about rape fantasy enough to publish them.
The sight & sound of him is a trigger to many women.
NO. Our Revolution did the Dem Party & women no favors to earn Franken's seat.

(99,710 posts)Mark Dayton would make a fine senator as he was before.

(24,931 posts)But the reich-wing attacked him mercilessly as a do-nothing. He was the junior senator when Paul Wellstone was the senior senator. They both voted against the IWR. He's not young anymore and has some health issues. He's not seeking reelection as Governor. He would be a good senator, but I'd rather have someone who could keep the seat in 2018.

(6,288 posts)It just so happens that Minnesota has a lot of Democratic women who could make for viable Franken replacements at least six, depending on who you ask.
One is Minnesota Lt. Gov. Tina Smith.
Another is Attorney General Lori Swanson.
A third is State Auditor Rebecca Otto.
A fourth is state House Minority Leader Melissa Hortman.
A fifth is Rep. Betty McCollum.
And a sixth is former state House Majority Leader Erin Murphy.
Any or all of these women seem as though they'd be a smart choice for Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton, should he have to appoint someone to take over from Franken.
