My letter to Senator Franken

Senator Franken,

You have my permission to resign the day Trump resigns. Until then stay put. We need you. We are in a different world today and just like every crime doesn't result in the death penalty, we as a nation need to take a deep breath, get a grip, and put things in perspective.

You have apologized for your misdeeds and agreed to submit yourself before the Congressional Ethics Board. I believe that is fair and reasonable but you have to follow your own conscience. I hope you will reflect long and hard over this decision as these are not normal times in which we live. Sure, as Democrats we can take a stand on principle, but where have our principles gotten us lately. The other party is ready to put a child molester in the Senate and we have someone in the white house who is a serial molester and a serial liar as well. So let that be your moral compass.

Yes our values matter, but forgive me since I've never depended on my lawmakers for my values in the first place. I've taken my values from my parents and my Pastor and I believe those values have served me well. As a member of Congress, I need YOU to be a balancing force against those who believe that health care is a privilege, not a right, and that define "real" Tax Reform as giving more to the top 1 percent, and using the tax code to bankrupt the nation so that they can destroy our social safety nets like social security and Medicare, Medicaid, and Medical.

Thank you for your service and I hope you will continue to serve.

I feel uneasy about Franken resigning, but realize he has admitted to and apologized for some of the accusations. However, this last one was beyond the pale. She asked for a photo and he put his arm around her back...squeezed her side twice? Hmmm!

Before Franken resigns, I think there needs to be a hearing where the accuser faces the accused and explains what happened to make the record clear. There is a nagging feeling that O'Keefe and Bannon have a finger in some of these and, if so, they should be jailed. If there are lies being told, Franken needs a hearing to clear his name.

Guilty or innocent? None of us know the truth because we've only heard hearsay.
