With all of these calls for Al Franken to resign, it is appalling how many

are willing to abandon any pretense at due process in their haste to cast that first stone.

And I speak mainly of the Democrats who are demanding that Franken resign before any sort of investigation is even started.

What happened to the concept of presumed innocence?
What happened to the concept of common sense?

At this point, there is a right wing quasi-celebrity who conveniently for Trump, just happened to find some suggestive/ photos as the Russia investigation is heating up. The photos are evidence of crude humor, nothing else, but they served to silence Franken as Trump is under increasing scrutiny.

In my opinion, Franken should wait for the results of an investigation before taking any action.

Yes, we should be better than the GOP, but if we are indeed the party of values we should also recognize the common sense value in only taking action after an investigation.

Which ones of us do you hate (i.e. fear) the most? Pelosi? Hillary? Franken?

Well, look look! We’re throwing him/her under the bus! See! We’re better than you!!!

We don’t seem able to find - or even think there is - a rational middle ground.

I think the "boob" photos were a joke.

I also think that Senator Franken KNOWS if he is guilty or not. If so, then his conscience should be his guide. Unlike too many on the rethuglican side, their conscience goes no further than the fly on their trousers.

I think that if Senator Franken is not guilty of the accusations, then he needs to stay steadfast and do the job he was elected by the good citizens of Minnesota to do.

And anonymous accusations need to be investigated, not used as assumption of guilt.

so they can say they occupy the moral high ground. "See, you lowlife Republicans, we were happy to cut our own throats by demanding the resignation of one of our most effective senators just so we could show you how much sleazier you are than we are!"

Of course, they won't care. They'll elect a child molester as long as he votes for their tax cuts. They'd probably elect Ted Bundy or Jeffrey Dahmer if he agreed to support tax cuts for the 1%.

how awful it would be to vote for a GOP candidate who groped a 14-year-old and assaulted and nearly raped another girl and was thrown out of a mall for creeping on high school girls, when the Democrats nobly insisted on the resignation of one of their senators because some anonymous women said he touched them "inappropriately." And then they'll vote for Roy Moore because of God and abortion.

He knows whether he did it or not.

I don't see any reason for him to step down if he didn't do anything wrong... and can't think of any reason why he would. So we'll find out tomorrow.

As for the party? I suspect that they think that it will help beat Moore. Just as importantly, an investigation could easily take a year, and there's no guarantee that Dayton would still be governor. If Republicans think they can win, then they could definitely stall until it would impact that election and cost us two statewide seats.

And for the GOP, power trumps everything. It is all about the votes. Remember the Norm Coleman affair?
