From a conservative: "its time to call on Clarence Thomas to resign"

I don't agree with everything here, but he does make some important points especially in his final statement.

All along, in other words, I didn’t doubt Hill. I knew the truth was on her side. But I was subconsciously belittling her experience, and that was wrong. In 2017, post-Weinstein, we can’t let sexual harassment slide just because it doesn’t rise to the severity of rape, or because we believe that boys will be boys.

I believe Anita Hill. I believe that Clarence Thomas abused his authority to sexually harass a woman who worked for him. And lied about it. And smeared his accuser.

And got away with it.

As painful as it is to repudiate a man I respected, I believe Thomas should never have been confirmed and should resign.

They can replace him with a 40 yr old man. He's getting kind of old & fat anyway.

He is supposed to be accountable to us all in his position. People who supported him are more likely to have influence, though.

That's gonna smack Thomas' ass.

Having lived through his hearings and read about it intently, Thomas is just another example of the shitty things Republicans do to our country. They consistently pick the worst people and policies to foist on us. Trump is simply the logical conclusion of their plot to destroy the country to the benefit of the one-percent.

I recall an opinion piece I read at the time that outlined why President G.H.W. Bush nominated Thomas for the seat that had been held by Thurgood Marshall. The idea was that Thomas was rather ignorant and light-weight so the Senate Judiciary Committee wouldn't vote to send his nomination to the floor. Then, Bush would be able to nominate a young white conservative. But the plan backfired. When Professor Hill's accusations came to light, the entire Senate was on trial and those ignominious bastards sure put on a show trying to be righteous. The result is the lap dog that Thomas has been for all these years.

Damn, I hate those bastards.

She and her group just gave "awards" to several conservakooks, including Sean Hannity and James O'Keefe.

That would be fair. Of course, if Moore loses in AL, this would present another opportunity for him to be a part of Dotard's team of miscreants.

Clarence Thomas is a walking, talking (well, not when he's on the bench) neon-light billboard for conflict of interest.

Just yesterday, his conservative-political-operative/activist wife Ginni Thomas presented a "journalism" award to James "Fraudboy" O'Keeffe.

Hell, failure to recuse himself in the face of conflicts of interest combined with a lackluster record as a jurist should have sunk his nomination even before the harassment matters came up.

question everything

From the same article

It wasn’t exactly his word against hers; she had witnesses whom the chairman of the Judiciary Committee, Sen. Joe Biden of Delaware, did not call up.

...wouldn't put it past them to nominate and confirm Roy Moore to the Court as the ultimate statement that they believe they are beyond the reach of democratic accountability...

Question...did McConnell take away the right of senators to place holds on judicial nominees, or is that still there?
