for Jones to win. So it is technically possible. Black activists wish Jones would speak out more about his civil rights convictions and against Moore's racism. Wish them well.

(58,785 posts)of course, but if only they came out and killed off what today's Alabama GOP has become for their own sake, then took a huge role in rebuilding a new conservative party that served them. Instead of too many potentially gagging at the thought of voting Democrat again and just staying home...

(89,252 posts)Hopefully turnout will propel Jones to a win, but I can't really see a path to victory. I expect Jones to be competitive, and lose by 3-5%, but not to win. Hard to believe folks would overlook purported crimes to support their favored candidate, but certainly happened with Trump.

(5,240 posts)in the deep south that vote GOP based on the abortion issue.
Even a sleazy chaser of teen girls is better than a damn satanic abortion supporter in their opinion. Being pro choice is basically an auto loss in deeply religious areas.

(23,421 posts)I don't think even 15% of black voters in the deep south routinely vote Republican.

(23,421 posts)I think that many anti-abortion religious black people would vote Democrats - I don't think many would vote for Republicans.

(118,685 posts)more of us thsn there are republucans. Maybe not in alabama. Or southern states but in the country as a whole. It is necessary for us to get everyone out to vote. You are right about that.

(14,249 posts)EVERYONE needs to get out and vote - but for some reason, black voters are always expected to be the margin.

(54,256 posts)I wish, but I'll be surprised.
They cared about Obama.
They don't care about Jones.
And no, I can't explain it.

(1,399 posts)It is the CAMPAIGN'S job to inspire voters.
That being said, I was just in Montgomery and I think we are going to turn out in a big way. I wish Jones had done more instead of spending so much time repeating our failed values campaign from last year but Jones came into it with tons of good will and Moore's racism is near legend. Moore is really hated.

(16,863 posts)If Jones loses, it wont be because of the AA vote in Alabama, it will be because of conservative white voters...the same white voters that only voted for Obama 11% in 08 and 10% in 12...AAs only make up about 25% of the voting populace in AL.
Now, if you want to talk about Jones not adequately reaching out to the AA community thats a different story. Yes, he should be heralded for his prosecution of those Klansmen, but he has done little to make himself known to the AA community in the form of what he will do to fight for them now. He also turned off a big segment of that community with his stupid Confederate apologist ad he ran on Facebook.

(14,565 posts)Drive through those southern states and stop at one roadside coffee shop and you'll never care about any polls. The faces and conversation tell you all you need to know. Likewise the radio channels, which are a choice between religious programming or ultra right wing talk radio.
We might have a chance if this were a governor's race but in federal elections the ideological bias is too overbearing.
