TPM - Josh Marshall's take on this mess "Serve Your Constituency"

http://talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/serve-your-constituency

By JOSH MARSHALL Published DECEMBER 6, 2017 7:32 PM

With what now seems like Al Franken’s inevitable resignation tomorrow, I wanted to re-up this post from a week ago on who gets forced to resign and who doesn’t. It’s not the press’s fault that Donald Trump is still President and Al Franken is about to an ex-Senator. The same applies to Roy Moore. All of these incidents play out based on the constituency of the accused or the larger organization they represent. That applies whether it’s consumers or voters or comparable category. Most Trump supporters simply don’t care. Same with Roy Moore.

_____________short and sweet - read the hot link in the above paragraph for more.____________________

His view is simply that who stays and who goes is a reflection on the constituency. trump supporters really don't care about the sex abuse issues of he, or Moore - or any of them.

BUT - what about when fellow politicians come out against one of our own? What about the part the media plays?

I am a bit disappointed at Josh's simplistic view, but do see where he (thinks he) is coming from.

For better or worse, Democrats are now the party of family values, we are the ones who think this type of behavior is unacceptable. We are the ones who made a big deal of Trump and Moore's predatory and boorish behavior. Republicans made excuses, while Democratic women made pussy hats.

And the female Democrats in the Senate have decided they are not going to tolerate this anymore, just like women all across America have decided they won't tolerate it. Eight female Senators demanded his resignation before any men did.

And I also think there is some political calculation here. We can't accept it just because Republicans do, anymore than they can accept transgender women in bathroom just because Democrats do. It's just another battle in the culture war, and Franken, unfortunately, is collateral damage.

There might be some good to come of this. There is a Democratic wave building. It might be just enough to sweep Moore away.

* and if you have a broken moral compass you can use intellectual legerdemain to cast doubt on even Pedo Moore and Chump's twenty eight or so accusers.

They absolutely do factor into this. I think if they were better at their job Trump would have a harder time getting away with it.
