I would say that they are bowing to contrived pressure and media focus and ignoring due process.

Or perhaps he has, but his voice will not be as covered by the media. We can only hope that another Democratic Senator will take his place and continue the fight.

If these spineless Democratic colleagues of his would have worked with the "ratfking" side to begin the investigation immediately, we could have gotten to the bottom of this.

But I really think a huge part of this is the so-called Democratic leaders from NY, full of ambition and hating that a political novice was stealing all their glory. They are content to have Al Franken, Giant of the Senate, comedian, and overall respected AND well-liked politician out of the picture.

But I hope that an independent investigation is pursued and I look forward to Senator Franken clearing his name.

will even speak a word of criticism against the guy roosting in the White House...nor will they give a rat's ass when Roy Moore is a senator.

They will, however, believe the next anonymous accusers of whoever is the next target...and the next and the next until there are no elected Dems left.

“I of all people am aware there is some irony I am leaving,  while a man who has bragged on tape about his history of sexual assault sits in the Oval Office, and a man who has repeatedly preyed on young girls campaigns for the Senate with the full support of his party,” Franken said.

He should sue Tweeden for defamation of character. Its the discovery that counts here. The alleged groping occurred in the company of several, so lets hear about it from them.

It was the rat fucking anonymous accusers dribbling out, the trolls and morons that joined the mob. The accusers will never be investigated and the right wing media will never go after real sexual misconduct by the GOP. The short attention span audience will turn to something else and all that will happen is that we lose two effective politicians, replaced by novices.

He's a public figure, he basically can't sue for defamation and it's too late, the rats are lighting cigarettes and smiling.

and also, you are correct in saying that he is a public figure but he can still sue if he can prove bad intention to hurt his reputation.

And hopefully he will because when Tweeden heard that Franken had asked for an investigation she became very uncomfortable, and that is very telling.

assumed guilty from word one, with absolutely no allowance to defend against any accusation

This is NOT how this should work.

Yes! Accusations should be taken seriously.

Yes! They should be investigated.

trump, moore, et al, have FAR more evidence to corroborate their horrid behavior than the zero credible corroborating evidence from any of Franken's accusers.

In the inside he has access to information that is not publicly available, the fact that he got Sessions to compromise himself could only be done because he had a position where he could ask questions in a special setting that will not be available to him if he infact decides to call it quits.

I am an optimist, so I am still hoping and thinking that he gave himself enough time to do some investigating and try to exonerate himself...and I do hope that happens, and 35 democrats will have to come out and apologize, but it will help them "think before they act" the next time and not make reactionary decisions.
