The only thing that gives me solace is the hope (yeah, call me Charlie Brown) that Democrats will use the purity they're trying to proclaim against the likes of Trump and Moore and that it will result in electoral success in '18 and '20.
I noticed that MSNBC referenced that Fox news Nazi, Laura Ingraham, who also believes Democrats will use their purity purge to electoral advantage.

First of all, Dayton says he will appoint the lieutenant governor to hold the position until the 2018 special election. Given the circumstances, the MN DFL almost has to run a woman for the permanent position. And that person had better be able to win outstate, which IMO would be very difficult for Ellison. The Democrats Up North are a good deal more conservative than the ones in CD5. I expect the candidate to be someone like Lori Swanson or Betty McCollum.

I have a friends who've told me since yesterday that they WERE devoted Bernie supporters who are less than thrilled with him asking Sen. Franken to resign. Some friends are still staunch Bernie supporters, but even they're not too happy with Berne's telling Franken to resign and he'd not been saying anything about tRumputin or Moore (I see he said that tRumputin ought to think of resigning. Yet Franken has to resign?).

I don't think that Bernie will run for for president in 2020, but if he does he'll have some 'splaining to do of his rape fantasy diary, along with his votes against Amber Alert. And, lest we forget that thuglicans will be vetting him THIS time around, and we know that they know how to vet, and by the time they get through with him, they'll be saying that what he wrote in his diary means that he's for women being raped and that him voting against Amber Alert means that he's hates children, on top of unleashing what's in that rumored 3-inch dossier they have on him and on top of that, what Victoria Tensing, her crazy husband and son are chomping at the bit to say about his wife Jane. I can see the liberal media which doesn't exist running with thuglicans narrative/vetting of Bernie just like they ran with Her emails though.

What do Dems have to enthrall their party?

"A Better Deal"

Yeah, that'll get masses out to the polls. But then again, we don't know if our votes will count or BE counted, because thuglicans like Kris Kobach control almost every part of the voting apparatus from collecting to tallying votes.

The election was stolen away from Hillary and the people of this country by the Russians and Republicans.

Today, the Democrats turned on their own and, like Brutus who stabbed Ceasar, they turned their knives on Al Franken.

I once had hopes that the actions of Trump and the Republicans would galvanize the voters to turn on them in 2018 and 2020 to take back our country. I no longer think that will happen because the Democrats are already self destructing and I am far to angry to even consider being there for them in the future.

I've seen this sort of group think before among Democrats: the Reagan tax cuts of the 1980's that ballooned the deficit and provided the rationale for the shredding of the social safety net, the 2nd-Amendment-violating and ineffective Assault Weapons Ban of 1994, the early 2000's innuendo against ACORN (not to mention the Swiftboat nonsense against John Kerry), and now this witch trial of Franken. On every one of these issues, Democrats pre-emptively folded on the wrong side of the matter and then suffered entirely predictable and avoidable (had they employed a lick of common sense) consequences.

As far as I am concerned, Democrats just surrendered 2018 and 2020. Why am I expected to slavishly support their continued incompetence as a condition of posting here?

I would dearly LOVE to leave this maelstrom of madness. But for me - in my 70s now - I can't fathom leaving our 2 acres of dirt and the aging abode we live in. Too much folderal , toss this - keep that - exotic pets we love - learning a new language and culture.

While I have reasonable health - even tho I get a check each month for being exposed to Agent Orange (not that one - the one that came in 55 Gal drums)(both equally evil though!) I can still walk and maintain this homestead for the most part. While I haven't said such to my wife, I'd be perfectly happy to expire on this very plot.

Anyway, if you're gonna go - get goin' now. Take it from a veteran (of too many calendars), the years SCREAM by as they accumulate.

I have no criticism for any and all who appear to be 'over-reacting'. I myself am attempting to stay even keel and not get hyper emotional over circumstances
whether personal or public. That is not always the result I achieve being in this current environment.

As you said, I too don't know enuff of the 'reasoning' that prompted those of his colleagues to call for resignation.

Giver her seat back to Hillary!

I am dead serious about that and I've seen agreement about it here. Hillary was a great Senator from New York and she should run for her seat back. There is no excuse for this hyper-accusational environment when we already got hosed during the election. Franken was far more valuable in the Senate than Gillibrand, who is just stepping on people to make a name for herself. Support Democrats! Don't throw them away to create a brand for yourself. She has also made a mockery of real victims by letting this extreme gossip pass for "accusations." Her judgment is appallingly bad. We're in the middle of a feeding frenzy over anything even hinting at sexually suggestive between men and women, or even men and young men. The Rethuglicans are chortling to themselves right now about how we get ourselves into a dither over identity politics, and they feel like they're too smart to fall for that, or at least their base is too dumb for anything like that.

At this point, you have blue-collar GOP women voters supporting the Donald Trumps and the Roy Moores, and a lot of ticked off Democratic voters being too disgusted to contribute, GOTV, or even vote for themselves. It's the ultimate case of divide-and-conquer.

Hmm, maybe this is the new strategy...

And, that accusation seems to be the "straw" that broke the came's back, so to speak... If that is harassment, so is what happened to me.

So, I DEMAND my accusations are just as valid as any against FRANKEN!!!! Or, do you think men cannot be sexually harassed by women? She touched me without my consent! That is HARASSMENT!!

This is not a joke. I am not kidding. And you can bite me for not taking my mental anguish and humiliation seriously.

But, for the record, in this case, it was NOT taken seriously. Taking it seriously would have entailed allowing the accused to defend himself against the accusers without a lynch-mob crying for his head. Taking it seriously would have meant examining the *facts* before deeming the accused guilty.

And, yes, the same with all the others accused.

If Senator Franken had NOT resigned the GOP would have been able to accuse the Democratic Party and progressives of being hypocrites, and rightfully so.

We have taken the moral high ground on this issue with the resignations of Representative Conyers and Senator Al Franken. As much as this hurts in the short run we will be all the better for it.

It is 2017 and Republicans support sexual harassers and even child molesters. On the other hand the Democratic Party removes those from its ranks who show even a hint of sexual impropriety.

in office in 2019. We have done the GOP's works for them, and sexual misconduct will now disappear as an issue. We took it, made it into a single edged razor and slit our wrists with it. It will cease to exist as a weapon as the inevitably short attention span moves on to something else. The school shooting In New Mexico will probably bubble up as soon as the gloating over Franken's announcement fades and occupy the rest of the week.

They have already proved that they can be as perverse as they want and it will cost them nothing.

Now they see that planting innuendo that may or may not have a grain of truth to it is enough to bring down one of the most eloquent Democratic Senators who requested his own ethics hearing--something many Republicans know they would themselves never survive. It's a gun they were carrying but never had any ammunition. We not only just offered them a full box, but offered to serve as target practice at their favorite firing range.

I will never believe any of them again when they talk about rights, criminals, justice, BS! If they believed in that, they'd let this play out in the ethics committee. But they don't and they aren't going after the real criminals either. true rapists and assaulters get a pass with this "I'M holier than thou" pretend progressives. I am just done!

I now know the true colors of these people, and we can color them all stupid. I am beyond disappointed, especially with Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders. If Elizabeth Warren decides to run for president, I will not vote for her, because of this lack of judgement. I do not think Senator Sanders will run again for president, but if he did, I would not vote for him as well. This situation was a true litmus test of political judgment and justice.

By the way, whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty? Are we going to remove every person from every position without proof? Can anyone just make a statement and ruin a person's life? This is such a dangerous precedent that it is indescribable.

Right now, this one hurts more than Trump's threatening dictatorship and daily verbal abuse, economic inequality, and partisanship that's tearing families apart.

I was exhausted. Now I'm deflated. My "leaders" - out of some apparent personal motivation - didn't listen to their constituents.

LISTEN TO YOUR CONSTITUENTS. WE LIVE IN THE REAL WORLD, NOT WA., WHERE HEALTHCARE IS FREE AND FUTURE LUCRATIVE LOBBYING AND CORPORATE JOBS AWAIT. WE ARE HURTING. LET FRANKEN BE INVESTIGATED FIRST.

I fail to see the grand plan.

Here's what I see. Mueller's investigation resulting in no consequences because the GOP majority won't impeach, and won't convict - and their majority increasing in number with outright white supremacists and fascist plutocrats. YAY KRISTI!

Meanwhile, new supreme court judges turn the US into a dictatorship.

But at least the small minority of remaining democrats - utterly powerless- will be expected to pass Ms. Geilebrand's, she the self-annointed arbiter of all that is moral and pure based on uninvestigated accusations - new moral purity test.

I'm sorry, but there is nothing "moral" about driving a dedicated public servant from office on the basis of a prank photo, a second accusation from a rather dodgy accuser and five anonymous accusations. The ethics committee's investigation should have been permitted to proceed and a report issued. By driving Franken out when they did, they have essentially set up a situation in which any Democrat can be taken out by little more than innuendo, while Republicans continue to elect and seat pedophiles like Roy Moore.

As New Yorker, I have been a strong supporter of Gillibrand. But she has lost my vote for the role she played in this travesty!

If the Dem women senators think they're immune from sexual harrassment charges, they need to think again. It won't be long before the Rs find a young male intern or staffer to say the women constantly making crude remarks about men in the office makes/made him uncomfortable. Or that he was treated differently than female staffers. If a woman can make a charge against a man, the same cases can be made by men against women.

McConnell blocked her from speaking during Session's hearing. While the Senate Democrats were critical of McConnells selective use of Rule 19 against Warren, it didn't amount to very much. Senator Warren has a lot of enemies among republicans in Congress. The most obvious one is they resent strong opinionated women, so out of that list, I believe the republicans are going to do everything as much as possible to set her up.

In regard to Senator Haris, it hasn't even started. The republicans are going throw all kinds of phony and ugly accusations at her, and there is no doubt in my mind that the republican mouth pieces are going to make sure the MSM outlets spew this out on the airwaves without any rebuttal to them.

This is only the start of an ugly road we are going down
