After today, a long view by a British historian on human decision making

“A number of politicians have failed to recognise the consistent truth of history: that we’re both an emotional and a rational species, and that we make decisions very emotionally,” she says. “The Remain campaign was very clinical, the Leave campaign was very emotional and the Leave campaign won ... Time and time again in history, it’s the emotional argument that wins. Probably since 70,000 BC we’ve been making decisions in a similar way.”

Note that she does no endorse that way of decision making-it is an observation.
I think this statement summarizes how the Democratic Party winds up where it is.
No one can deny that IQ45 touched the darkest reptilian part of society. Hate is an emotion he fed and it is a powerful one at that. It drove the anti Obama and anti Clinton movement. Russian cyber ops also strongly stoked that hatred. You can’t be clinical in a knife fight or a sport match. Emotional motivation matters-it is what drove our 2017 vote.

Franken was a champion of our shared progressive beliefs-and he brought passionate arguments to the table. The heavy burden of keeping our emotional fires burning shifts to the Party officials who helped force Franken out. Gillibrand, Warren, Perez et al better have a plan to energize the voters.
We are running out of time and 2018 may very well be the last opportunity to breathe free air in this land. Don’t tell me that we are better than them with our morals. We are but that is cold comfort. These are politicians we are talking about-I don’t expect demigods. I do expect them to fucking fight for us. And to breathe fire and brimstone.

At the end of the day, who won the emotional battle of the “Franken “ issue? If it is Trump and McConnell, we have a problem. Don Jr is gloating and Ryan is preparing to stick a blade into the last existing safety nets. We let ratfucker Roger Stone screw us!

Bobby Kennedy was considered “ruthless”. We need his ruthlessness and passion now. Propose something for women’s rights now! We know the rethugs can’t stand women in power. We have a POTUS who mocked a woman for having a period! For the love of God- throw a fucking punch back at them. Learn to emote. And do it now because in the words of Noble Laureate Bob Dylan, “It’s not dark yet but it’s getting there”.

Thanks I needed to vent.
