Roy Moore: America was great at the time when families were united even though we had slavery

Alabama’s Republican candidate for Senate, Roy Moore, says America needs to be a bit more like it was when it had slaves.

This is not a joke or exaggeration. When asked earlier this year when America was last great, Moore acknowledged, according to the Los Angeles Times, that the country had a history of racial tensions. Then he answered the question: “I think it was great at the time when families were united — even though we had slavery — they cared for one another. … Our families were strong, our country had a direction.”

The quote comes from a Los Angeles Times report published in September, but it was recently resurfaced by a viral tweet from former Obama administration official Eric Columbus.

.....

For one, which families, exactly, were “united” and “strong,” as Moore claims? Black families were regularly torn apart — and tortured — by slave masters at the time. Slaves often couldn’t even marry, because their marriages were legally considered void.

The idea of nuclear family being the "cornerstone" of society (yes that was on purpose) is a modern creation. The rates of unwed pregnancy, of mistresses and second families were similar or higher than they are today. America's greatness is a point to which we strive, it is not a state that we have achieved, or at least, where we have stayed for very long.

This is the derangement of many conservatives. They want to go back to a "time when America was great" and when pressed, they talk about times when people were seen as chattel, when women had many fewer rights and protections than today, when minorities were routinely lynched or discriminated against, etc... The reality is that America is always a work in PROGRESS and these clowns want to derail that progress because they fear losing their supremacy and having to compete on a truly equal playing field.

so he could rape all the little girls, slave and otherwise. He'd call one courting and the other his right as a master.

Moore would quote scripture the entire time he was attacking his victims and declare it proof he was a man of god.

He'd beat the slaves he raped while quoting scripture as well. He'd call that proof he was a just master.

Moore is a sick fuck. Nothing but...
