"Fires are raging; burning & scorching the earth, and ash is everywhere"

From my sister on FB...

I am SICK about this.

While I know the fires are burning in Los Angeles, scorching the earth, the truth is this entire country is now covered in ash.

Make no mistake, Al Franken did not resign because he believed or thought that he did something wrong, or behaved inappropriately or behaved abusively - he made that pretty clear in his speech, and yes, I believe him - he resigned because 38 Democrats demanded that he step down, a party, his own party, would no longer support him; 38 Democrats decided to throw him under a bus to save their own fucking skin, to look like heroes and SHEroes, to be able to say, see, we did it; we got the bad guy removed. That's exactly what they did, they tossed him under a moving bus, and of course he had to resign - who the fuck would stay under those circumstances? And for those who think that every single innuendo or every nuance should be put under a microscope and examined, and every single misdeed or joke gone awry should be punished or every single waist or shoulder that has been squeezed or grabbed is deserving of a lifetime of shame & punishment, it's not gonna end well. The #MeToo movement was rightfully and thoughtfully and stunningly grounded in the blatant horror of the abuse of power. Abuse of fucking power. The Weinstein's in the world, the Spacey's in the world, the CK's and the Rose's in the world, the Roy Moore's in the world who violate young girls for their sick vile pleasure. The Trump's in the world who yes, grabbed more than a few pussy's, and who has now grabbed this country by the throat and is choking it to death. The original #MeToo movement was founded in the name of girls and women of color who get absolutely no press - no screen time - no social media crazy-ass-frenzy - women and girls of color who have been violated and trafficked and raped for longer than most of us have been alive. There is no outrage for their lives. Women and girls who are brutalized, and traumatized, and mutilated; sullied, and dirtied, and horrified, and tossed into the trash heap. Where is the outrage for their lives? Why are we not going after their abusers, their tormentors; the men who have silenced them, beaten them, tortured them?

We should all be disgusted and enraged and sick to our stomachs that political McCarthyism is now running rampant. We should all be disgusted and enraged and sick to our stomachs that not one Democrat is demanding - kicking & fucking screaming - for Donald Trump's resignation, not one is demanding - kicking & screaming - that Roy Moore be removed from the ballot. Not one is kicking and screaming for the millions upon millions of voiceless women and voiceless men - girls and boys - who have been battered and beaten and bruised and bullied and raped and tortured day in and day out for years and years.

Fires are raging; burning & scorching the earth, and ash is everywhere.

...and embers could catch again. I was hoping to get in and clean out the fridge and freezer (ew) and help hubby hose the hotspots in the yard, but the road was barricaded again. The Thomas Fire is now up to 115,000 acres, I think, and runs from Fillmore to Carpinteria, if you know the geography at all. In the city of Ventura itself, the new Botanic Garden behind City Hall is ashes but City Hall is apparently intact. I'm new to this town, and am getting more info from emails and FB posts from my former State Senator than from any officials here, which is kind of strange.

The air is really bad across a vast region. My little grandson just got out of the NICU and had to go back again because of breathing issues.

We are staying with my husband's brother and his wife for the time being. The family next door has taken in two families.

We count ourselves lucky, but it will be very good to be back home trying to figure out how to get the stink of smoke out of everything. And on our own schedule, watching Rachel Maddow and Steven Colbert...

See you manana in DU-land

All day long I have been monitoring the local fires that are moving FAST and threatening over 1,000 structures right now.

I am filled with fire and rage over the GOP and have been calling reps in Congress in between calling friends to make sure they are OK as the fires move west. I am harnessing my energy and using it to destroy the GOP Tax Scam and visualize it going up in flames.

since the weather is going to be "extremely dangerous" like Thurs. due to winds kicking up again and very low humidity. This Summer and Fall has been the 2nd driest in history after record rain fell all Winter and Spring. Everything grew a lot after 5 years of droughts then it got crispy and became kindling. I was here during the two worst fires in our history (2003 and 2007). The schools were closed for the first time ever and for an entire week each time. Teachers and students at my school lost their homes. Almost 3,000 homes and structures were burned.

you do, of course. We still have friends down there, though, one couple near Oceanside/Carlsbad and another in some hills out toward SD State. The fires just went on and on. The Oceanside friends couldn't sleep for worrying and eventually put their children on a plane to relatives.

Sounds like you're probably near mountainous edges also, but the odds are still heavily on your side. I'm not sure the combo of fire and today's politics is a healthy one. Could this be a good time to revisit the Napoleonic Wars or some such thing?

For stupid politics and to support their own out-of-touch view, they have trivialized the pain and humiliation of millions of women. I'm ashamed to have supported some of them. No more.
