Thanks, Packman. You guys, I think maybe the headline's overly dramatic? Neither he nor the little creature (as it turned out) were suicidal enough to run into the fire.

I saw another picture where a man was running across low-burning, grassy ground to rescue his cat, and hopefully he succeeded also. At that point yesterday, amazingly, there were no direct deaths reported from these fires. Two people this morning are reported burned from the new Lilac fire down the coast toward San Diego, no word on condition.

Government is still functioning and still doing some of the things we need it to well. The Creek Fire that required mandatory evacuation of 110,000 near the Burbank area is 20% contained in spite of up to hurricane force winds at times yesterday. Just wow.
