4. The GOP might just read the tea leaves

I'm not so sure that they won't turn against him in the months ahead, given the huge mid-term political liability that he would pose as the titular head of the GOP. As long as they can occupy the White House through line of succession, Trump is likely to be seen as expendable and therefore "accountable" for any misdeeds that Mueller's investigation reveals.
