Franken Accuser: Resigning Shows 'One Party Is Better On Women' Than Other

By NICOLE LAFOND Published DECEMBER 8, 2017 11:16 AM

While the journalist who alleged Sen. Al Franken (D-MN) groped her in 2009 wasn’t impressed with the lawmaker’s resignation speech Thursday, she said it proves one thing: That Democrats are “being better on women” that Republicans.

“I thought he said to listen to women and then he talked about himself,” Tina Dupuy said on CNN Friday. “It wasn’t an apology. It was very defiant. … He was talking to the President. He said that it was ironic that someone like Roy Moore and Donald Trump are still in good standing. That’s not irony. That is one party being better on women than the other party.”

During his speech from the Senate floor on Thursday, Franken announced his resignation after weeks of mounting allegations of sexual misconduct against him, but pointed to the “irony” that someone like Trump, who has bragged on video about sexually assaulting women, and Moore, an accused child molester, can have good standing within their political parties.

“I think that’s a false equivalency, people have said to me, ‘Well he’s no Roy Moore’ and I say ‘Well, he’s no Charles Manson either, that’s not what I’m accusing him of,’” Dupuy said. “He calls himself a champion of women, but he does these things that says to the women that you have no ownership over your own body, that your comfort does not matter. That I can touch you and I can do whatever I want to do and it doesn’t matter.”

and then calling me into the office explaining why I am being let go.

That would be due process.

Explains why we keep our hands to ourselves - and teach our children the same.

10. If the company policy is never touch another person or you will be fired,

that is an appropriate response.

Photo Ops:

I myself have a thick album of photos of my extended family, friends, friends of friends, neighbors, and complete strangers to me-group photos where we are all hugging, wrapping arms around waists and shoulder, rubbing bodies against each other. I have digital photos exhibiting same.

We have never taught our children that one must never touch anyone else while taking a group photo. (and I will add that "good touch, bad touch" is taught at home and in our schools.

Your cultural norms may differ.

would you keep it to yourself?

Especially if other women came out and said, "Me too?"

as an adult-which is tell the person, either publicly or privately-and also tell others at the time of occurrence when I deemed it appropriate, such as a spouse.

I understand that in the past many adults may not have directly addressed the issue but going forward I think people should be encouraged to speak up when they believe they have been transgressed upon in social situations where power relationships are not an issue.

Why do victims stay silent?

And why do multiple victims break their silence together, one after the other?

11. Unlikely fired for just that

Most H.R. departments I’m familiar with would not fire based on the Franken allegations as we know them. With just the instances as reported and discussed here, there would probably be some kind of caution or reprimand, but probably not a firing.

14. Senior management would probably fire

H.R. would probably be just a formality. If a private employee, a company would not put up with such behavior being associated with it. A bit more complicated in the public sector where there are generally legally proscribed procedures, but the result would be the same.

So i know this will get me booed, or even hissed, called names, even threatened, because thats where this country is going, but.... He did admit to doing some of this.... granted, it is not what Moore did, but someone told me about Al Frankin, can't we forgive and forget.... well if we do about something he did 12 years ago, then most likely the right will say, then why not forgive and forget about Moore, and Trump, and Laurer, et al. Double edged sword. I think this needs to stop COMPLETELY. I would go FUCKING NUTS if I heard one of my daughters was subjected to this... I think Senator Frankin needs to NOT resign now, but wait until the Alabama elections are over. If Moore wins and nothing is said pertaining to his past, if the right seats him and allow him to serve, then Frankin MUST be allowed to serve too.
