I live on $970.00 a month (social security) rent is $450.00. If I am forced to move rent will be $1000 plus electric is approx $100 per month. According to the state of Washington I have too much income to receive health care or dental. Every time I go to the clinic I pay $15 or a doctor $50.00 even with Medicare. I am 77 yrs old . They don't want to hire me at my age. Is this the way our government lets old people die? Especially the poor and low income elderly...I for one will be damn glad to be out of this planet...I see people, even children without a home and hungry, I see people with so much money that can't find enough places to spend it. What an ugly country, greed, selfishness and hatred for the poor and low income.
For example, one of our libraries offers on line classes for Word, Excel, etc but you have to have the program on your computer already. I don't and can't afford to buy it...so much for trying to pull yourself up by the bootstraps! At times I think I should have dumped the being honorable and learned how to steal, sell drugs or whatever to have medical and dental care that is needed...no luxury here.
Our planet is being raped by the Capitalist, killing species, forest, etc in the name of profit and we just sit here and take it. There comes a point when what is being done is slowly killing life that the human race should be exterminated (we will do it ourselves). Unfortunately I and a lot of other decent people who give a damn about the darkness capitalism seems to create have to live with the selfish and self-centered until they eventually kill all of us.

(63,221 posts)think there are too many people out there are just like you and for too many of us, it is not just a matter of "pulling ourselves up by the bootstraps". Especially if one is elderly or ill. Nobody should be in such a predicament in a nation as wealthy as ours and it makes me sick that the very wealthy only seek to get richer on the backs of those who can least afford it.
Thank you for your post.

(19,962 posts)there is a free software package called https://www.libreoffice.org/ which offers the same functionality but you can save them in Word .doc format etc. I know it doesn't help you for your courses but it's something anyway.
Apart from that, someone might be selling their Microsoft Office suite on Ebay or one of those Lists, so it might be worth checking there. The other thing is, it IS possible to get the latest MS Office for about $30-40. Microsoft have schemes where they offer it to students or through businesses to employees for home use.
Finally, there is the option I use

It's $99 a year for the latest version of Office (Word, Excel, Access Publisher etc) and 1TB of cloud storage, which may be overkill for you.

(45,457 posts)see if they can get you MS Office for $10. I've used this or the free open source alternatives(open office, libreoffice, Google Drive, etc.) always. I don't believe I have ever paid full price for Office in the last 16 years.
If you are so inclined, here's a great list of free productivity software. Our planet has a lot of smart talented people who create great software tools and give it away for free simply because they want people to use it. Many nonprofits and developing country governments use this stuff too.

(58,785 posts)It's so pervasive on the right, and is so deeply embedded in their current political ideology, that it's almost definitive in itself.
But, if you don't know this, if you can't look within yourself and know how inappropriate it is to post this title here, is this the right place for you? No should here should have to have the most basic and blatant differences between right and left explained.
