The mountain of evidence that Donald Trump and his campaign engaged in a conspiracy with the Russian government got a whole lot higher this week.
And the case against Trump for obstruction of justice, which was already all but a slam dunk, may have gotten even stronger Sunday morning.
The day after Trump implicated himself on Twitter, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell appeared on This Week with George Stephanopoulos, and was asked to respond to new reports that Trump pressured Republican leaders to abandon the Russia investigation.
McConnells responses could scarcely have been more incriminating.
Well, I dont think the president said anything to me on this subject that I considered inappropriate, McConnell insisted, repeating the line without any prompting.
And when Stephanopoulos directly asked McConnell if Trump had tried to curtail the investigation, his evasion was deafening: @8:45
That kind of response might get you out of a tough TV news spot, but it also appears to indicate that Trump may have attempted to influence McConnell, which is sure to get the attention of the special counsel.
In fact, the only thing that might keep McConnell and his fellow Republicans out of Robert Muellers witness chair is the fact that Trump has already been so open about his obstruction of justice. - ShareBlue

(82,849 posts)We'll see if the Special Counsel shares your opinion. What, exactly, and to the best of your recollection, did the President of the United States say to you, the Majority Leader of the Senate, about the Russia investigation?
That's a lot of high-powered political talent getting together to discuss nothing in particular.

I don't give him much credit for integrity.
He is all about self interest.

(5,730 posts)I think most of those Dems have integrity, but Gillibrand led them on a speedy witch hunt. They joined the mob.
She is the witch that had something to hide if Al got a hearing.

(42,641 posts)Assuming that he is innocent, why did he not demand and wait for an investigation?
Alice11111
(5,730 posts)To expel him, which is an unbelievable thing to consider. I think it was such a lynch mob rushing to judgment, that he was a little bit off guard. I would have liked him to have continued to demand an investigation, maybe he still will. I hope so, regardless of what happens. The Dems were calling him, harassing him to resign.
HUGE PRESSURE.
Maybe one reason is they wanted him out before Tuesday's election.
Very bad thing for him, us, the country, the world.
