That is because would be running in the state in which he was elected governor.

He may not have been presidential material. He may not have been conservative enough for the Tea Party gang. I don't know enough about him.

republicans would not vote for him. But they voted for Trump so they could vote for anything.

A seat that had no business being in play will now will likely be in play. After Moore wins on Tuesday, I wonder if their will be any Senate Dems kicking themselves for forcing Franken out.
