A couple of points stuck out.
Many voters will hold their noses like they did with Trump and vote for him because they know his basic values align with theirs. Republican voters have shown they are fully willing to do this.
Roy Moore is well known and a colorful personality. Doug Jones isn't a familiar name or personality. He's the 'other guy'.
The massive media coverage of Roy Moore makes his name familiar just like it did with Trump and many will simply vote for what seems familiar. On the ballot you see two names. One is familiar because you've heard it blasted at you over and over again. The other is unfamiliar and therefore seems to be an ineffective milk toast. (if he was influential wouldn't I know a lot about him?) You vote for the name that seems familiar.
I hope I'm wrong and Jones wins but I think the odds are heavily against him no matter how much the media tries to increase the tension.
Now to see if I'm just full of hot air.
I hope I am.

(720 posts)Hoping Jones can pull it off, but it would be a massive upset and require huge voter turnout, and I haven't read anything that makes me believe voters are particularly engaged in this particular election.

Obviously I hope I am wrong for the good of the Country and the Senate. But I am also seeking to get a little hope that we are not that far gone.
