His chances of re-election in 2020 are pretty slim. Republicans will almost certainly do better than Moore next time, and this was a perfect storm in a downright crimson state. Alabama being Alabama, his best chance at re-election is to actually switch parties rather than just vote with Republicans. His second-best chance is to stand on some principles and keep his base while luring moderates and hoping the GOP gets tired of "winning" under Trump. The absolute worst thing he can do is follow this advice, stay a Democrat and vote with Republicans, thus alienating everyone.

This does make me wonder what would happen if he flipped this script, switched parties, became a RINO...and voted with Democrats on everything.
