Candidates qualify for Fort Deposit election

The Town of Fort Deposit is set to hold a special election for the offices of mayor and town council place 2 on Jan. 13. Candidates had until Tuesday, Nov. 25 to qualify for those races and early this week, a list of candidates who qualified was posted on the Town Hall door.

Running for mayor in January are former mayor Jacqulyn Boone and challenger Madeline Means. Six candidates are running for town council district 2: Lillie Davison, Adriana Gray, Yvonne D. Jones, Willa Gail Perdue, William Earl Steiner and Debbie D. Webb.

At its last meeting, the town’s council approved a resolution to overhaul its voter list. The revised list is complete and will run in the Dec. 11 issue of The Lowndes Signal.

A July notice posted by the town explains the purpose of its voter list. The notice reads in part:
