Asking for a friend considering moving from Nevada to England: she has 3 cats. How do folks in England open windows for fresh air and yet keep pets from jumping out and keep bugs from coming in without window screens?

(4,074 posts)I had made and installed custom screens.
Others here screen in balcony spaces with mesh to separate indoor cats from outside birds.

(2,116 posts)We have no window screens here.
The windows open outward.
When they are open, the bugs get inside all the time. Especially spiders. And mosquitoes. And flys.
My wife was bit on the side of her face back in 2009. Necrosis set in and she had an itchy scalp for 6 months. It took a year to heal.
Worse than the lack of window screens is the total lack of sense in the population (Brexit). Its easier to get used to the bugs.
Btw, you can buy fly screens on-line in custom sizes if you want to.
As to the cats, just tell her to leave them behind with a friend.
