DU'ER,
Yesterday, the House passed a package of six funding bills, ending the partial government shutdown and temporarily funding the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) through February 13.
This vote buys time to negotiate a DHS funding bill that protects communities from two DHS agencies that have been terrorizing and brutalizing our communities: ICE and Border Patrol.
Its critical we use that time to put pressure on every Member of Congress -- especially Democrats -- to insist on real guardrails that put an end to ICE and CBPs lawless thuggery and get them out of our cities. We cant settle for insufficient reforms like body cams -- weve all seen that Trumps goons are perfectly happy to gas, tackle, and kill innocent people on film.
Whether or not youve already called or emailed: We need EVERYONE to be loud over the next nine days and make capitulation politically impossible.
Take Action
Use our updated call scripts and email tool to demand a DHS funding bill that halts the ICE and CBP terror machine.
Call Your Senators
Call Your Representative
Email Your Members of Congress
THE SCRIPTS, BOTH PHONE AND EMAIL ARE GREAT.
More often than not, weve seen Congress fail to stand up to Trump with Republicans falling in line with his cruel agenda, and Democrats forfeiting their leverage in critical funding fights. But there have also been moments where the grassroots pressure and the public backlash have been so strong that Democrats find their spines and Republicans start to peel away from the regime.
We saw this when Congress defied Trump and passed a bill requiring the release of the Epstein files. We saw it again last month (at least initially), when five Republican senators joined with Democrats to advance a war powers resolution after Trumps invasion of Venezuela.
The killing of Renee Good and Alex Pretti has created a backlash against ICE that spans parties. And if we keep up the pressure, we could see Congress defy Trump again and rein in his lawless secret police force.
And whether or not Republicans listen to their constituents who are clamoring for action, DHS funding cannot pass without Democratic votes.
There are only nine days to go, so we need to act quickly. Contact your Members of Congress and demand they vote no on any DHS funding bill unless, at a minimum, it:
Pulls ICE and Border Patrol out of Minneapolis and the rest of our communities
Prevents ICE or Border Patrol enforcement at designated "sensitive locations" such as houses of worship, day cares, and hospitals
Restricts ICE and Border Patrols ability to target people based on their race, language or accent, place of employment, or location at the time of the apprehension
Ends the administrations unlawful practice of warrantless home entry and arrests
Use our updated call scripts and email tool to contact your Members of Congress today:
1️⃣ Call Your Senators
2️⃣ Call Your Representative
3️⃣ Email Your Members of Congress to drive the point home.
4️⃣ Check out our explainer for the latest updates, our full list of demands, and answers to common questions about ICE/CBP funding and a potential shutdown.
Ultimately, theres no reforming ICE. When we regain power, we need to strip the entire Department of Homeland Security down to the studs. But we dont have to wait that long to rein in ICE and CBP. We have a chance to do it now, and we have to take it.
In solidarity,
Indivisible Team

(16,863 posts)2. ICE and CBP would keep operating during shutdown, despite DHS funding fight
Washington Senate Democrats are threatening to block a package to fund major parts of the government this week, including the Department of Homeland Security, following the deadly shooting of a man by federal agents in Minneapolis.
But a partial government shutdown would likely have little impact on the administration's ongoing immigration enforcement operations, since the relevant DHS agencies received a massive funding infusion in President Trump's One Big Beautiful Bill Act last year. The immigration enforcement agencies would have the funds to continue operating uninterrupted, even if other parts of the government shut down. DHS received an influx of around $165 billion in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act last year, going well beyond the annual funding the agency regularly receives. The bill provided $75 billion for ICE and $65 billion for CBP, an enormous infusion of money for the agencies responsible for implementing the administration's mass deportation effort.
The DHS bill being debated now would provide $64.4 billion in discretionary funding for the fiscal year, including $10 billion for ICE. Democratic appropriators acknowledged before the Minneapolis shooting that failing to pass new funding would not hamper the administration's immigration efforts.
The office of Sen. Patty Murray, the top Democratic appropriator in the Senate, said in a bill summary released last week that "Congress' failure to pass a Homeland Security appropriations bill would not shut down ICE or CBP," given the OBBBA funds.
The summary noted that a lapse in funding "would instead allow ICE and CBP to continue their operations using OBBBA funds but without any of the constraints imposed by an enacted funding bill while FEMA, TSA, CISA, Coast Guard, and other DHS components are shuttered, or working without pay."
