Pot petition has enough signatures to make ballot.

ANCHORAGE, ALASKA — Enough petition signatures have been verified to place an initiative seeking to legalize marijuana on the ballot this summer in Alaska, election officials said Tuesday.

The petition has met all the thresholds necessary to appear on the Aug. 19 primary ballot, the Alaska Division of Elections said.

The lieutenant governor's office said it had verified the signatures from registered voters as of Monday evening. The total of 31,500 was a thousand more than needed, with about 6,000 signatures remaining to be checked.

3. A little off topic,

but I just read a new poll that says Seanoco is ahead in the polls 41% to Mallott's 25% and Walker's 16%. I think Byron Mallott should offer Walker something nice, like maybe DNR commissioner, to drop out of the race now and pool their supporters. Four more years of Parnell will destroy this state.

4. That's a good idea.

Maybe Lt. Govornor? I want to pay for my notary bond but I don't want to give Sean's Lt Gov my 40 dollars. If Sean stays in that means he's going to give the entire state away to big business, pebble mine will go forward somehow by some scheme, and he's going to have to find a way to dip into the permanent fund to have enough money to give his buddies kickbacks. But I'm paranoid, though, that's just my suspicions.

5. Couldn't be lt. Governor because that's a separate election.

Hollis French and Bob Williams are running to be the democratic nominee for lt. guv. I suggested DNR because that's kind of Walker's area of expertise. I did some temp work for him up here several years ago. He's a nice guy and I imagine he could work well with Mallott, even though he's a Republican (although running as an independent). In the spirit of bipartisanship, of course.

I like Hollis French. Know nothing about Williams.
I think some AK republicans are way over the tea party. Joe Miller kinda killed it for them. I'll take him for DNR if that means we can combine forces against Parnell. So I'm cool with bipartisanship if I can get my way. I'm learning from the republicans.

7. Bob Williams is a math teacher from the Mat-Su.

He has been "teacher of the year," and is very likable. We went to a lt. Guv debate a couple weeks ago, which was the first contact I had had with him. I was quite impressed. The guy running with Walker, Craig Fleener, was also impressive - a little more Libertarian, of course, but not insane at all. Interestingly, Mayor Dan Sullivan and the lovely Lesil, the Republican candidates, didn't show. Danny Boy claimed he had a prior engagement, and Lesil called in "sick" at the last minute. That's the same excuse Lindsey Holmes used last year for not showing up at the Anchorage legislative caucus right after she switched parties.
