Obama Reportedly Wasn't Pleased With Romney's 2012 Concession Phone Call

WASHINGTON -- President Barack Obama was displeased with Mitt Romney's 2012 Election Night concession call, and briefly considered appointing Hillary Clinton to the Supreme Court, one of his closest former advisers reveals in a new book.
The adviser, David Axelrod, says Obama thought Romney suggested the president was only re-elected because he got out the black vote, according to an advance copy of Believer: My 40 Years in Politics obtained by the New York Daily News.
Obama was "unsmiling during the call, and slightly irritated when it was over," Axelrod writes in the book, scheduled to go on sale next week. Romney also reportedly told Obama that he had done a good job getting out the vote in Cleveland and Milwaukee, which Obama interpreted to mean black people.
"That's what he thinks this was all about," Obama said, according to Axelrod.

Someone else should do a thread on the other major note - of Axelrod's book
That Obama consider naming Hillary to the SCOTUS

Romney Aide Says Axelrod's Account is a LIE
[br]
This report is just in from CBS News (here) - where Mitt Romney's aide (Garrett Jackson) claims the David Axelrod book account of Romney's phone conversation - is ridiculous lie. As if there's a recording (perhaps there should be - at least on the POTUS side) - Romney's aide Garrett, says that he hopes the lies are coming from Axelrod and not the President.
As stated in the CBS story;
Garrett Jackson, who was Romney's personal aide during the campaign,
--------------------------------------------------------told CBS News that account is a "lie" and "ridiculous."
Garrett Jackson is quoted by CBS as saying that;
"Mr. President, I want to congratulate you and your team on a hard-fought race and your victory...There are a lot of tough issues facing the country...and I hope you tackle those tough issues."
bold emphasis - and line breaks - are mine
[br]
The link to the CBS News account - is in the title - and (here). What is quaint, as reported in the news (the Standard - not too reliable a source), David Axelrod is (reportedly) meeting, as a co-speaker, this summer, with Romney (see story {HERE}). Guess that handshake session won't be a consideration any more.
It seems a little far-fetched to me that Axelrod would simply make stuff up - What do you think?

(81,450 posts)Glad you're here! Few could be more out-of-touch than dear little ol' mitt. I almost wish he'd stayed in. It'd be very entertaining to see that "47%" video thrown back in his face as he tries to push his "makeover" into "The Candidate MOST Concerned about the Poor and Middle Class." Which he could never fully achieve. It just isn't in him. It isn't in his background, it isn't in his past, it isn't in what he made of himself, or who he was in school, or who he was as a young vulture or young draft-dodger. He just has a very skewed elitist view of the world. Anybody who can excuse his sons' failure to serve their country in the military by saying - "they served. In the private sector" - is just OUT OF FREAKIN' TOUCH. SHEESH!!! That's not "SERVING"!!!!! WTF????? That's helping yourself at the pig trough!

But, as for my suing him for racketeering - his exit was untimely.

(28,811 posts)his racism runs so deep that he cannot even IMAGINE a white person voting for Obama. and clearly he had to be buried deep in some kind of alternate reality bubble to be surprised that he lost.
i don't think he can learn. and since i didn't respond to the thread the other day about it, i think he is not going to run this time because he put out feelers and the support is not there. otherwise he would run and to hell with what his family wants.

And Mitt - should he had stayed in the hunt - Would've been Hunted Down by the Press.
I lost about 1/2 dozen news stories coming out - when he made his announced end;
but - it's not over yet...

(28,944 posts)Fact checking: It's your friend.
President Obama took every state in New England. Largest city population: Boston 645K, smallest: Burlington 42K. Combined population of all six states' largest cities: 1,182,000. Hardly the booming urban center of the nation.
State with largest African American population: Connecticut: 10%. Mass: 6%, Rhode Is: 5%. Others: 1% or less
Keep digging Mitt. You'll find that pony.

Axelrod knows better than to say anyone can APPOINT anyone to the SCOTUS. that would have been a knock down drag out fight in the Senate.
Not meant as an excuse but Mitt was in a state of shock that night. All his yes men had convinced him that their internal "with energy" polls were right and had him winning. He never had a chance really. Obama is a better person, candidate, and his campaigns have been juggernauts on many different levels - I worked directly for his in 08 and indirectly (Kaine) in 12 and they were damned impressive.

(7,805 posts)They utilized much of the info I provided (such as Romney still being CEO in 2001); and other things.
Everyone says I should have been screaming at Obama and Axelrod to take my case more seriously. Thing is, it hurts Biden's home state (a place I called home, from time to time); and even the POTUS can't interfere with fed investigations.
I actually believe that - had the case FULLY broken open - in 2012; Obama would have had to pardon Mitt!
Glad we never got to that point.

(12,754 posts)Mitt had the fireworks locked and loaded and ready to set off over Boston Harbor. He was so sure he was going to win. Then, he had to order them all packed up and shipped out. If he had any class, he would have set them off anyway.
A really sad thing was that he showed up at his campaign headquarters with a full Secret Service contingent and a proper motorcade. Once he conceded, the SS contingent was told to stand down, and he had to get himself home.

(4,490 posts)But who knows. Human memory is not always the most reliable especially when strong emotions are involved. Had two coworkers who didn't like each other very much both recalling a conversation completely different than what I witnessed as a neutral 3rd party standing there. And it was only a couple hours latter, lol.
