LAWRENCE, Kan. - UPDATE: Police say three victims were flown from the home at 1600 block of W. 19th Terrace to Kansas City hospitals with life-threatening injuries. Officers also believe the suspects fled on foot. No further description is available as of 7:30 p.m.

Original story: This alert from the University of Kansas was sent around 5:30 p.m. Sunday evening:


"Police are searching for an individual suspected in a shooting in the 1600 block of 19th Terrace. Police are searching the neighborhoods south and southeast of campus, including neighborhoods near Ambler Student Recreation Fitness Center, but do not believe the suspect is on campus. The suspect is a a white male wearing a dark colored t-shirt, carrying a gray sweatshirt, and is believed to be armed."

LAWRENCE, KS (KCTV) -

Three men suffered life-threatening injuries when they were shot Sunday afternoon inside a residence just two blocks from the University of Kansas campus.

Lawrence police are searching for at least two gunmen.

The shooting occurred about 4:40 p.m. in the 1600 block of 19th Terrace, which is just south of campus.

One man was rushed by medical helicopter to a Kansas City area hospital. The other two men were taken via ground ambulance to the Kansas City area for treatment.

Neighbors told KCTV5 that they saw two men fleeing the scene in a car. The men were described as tall white men in their early 20s wearing dark-colored sweatshirts.

Police said a third suspect may have fled on foot.

Students and staff on KU were warned about the shooting via the campus alert system, saying neighborhoods south and southeast of campus were being searched including neighborhoods near Ambler Student Recreation Fitness Center. The alert said police do not believe the gunmen were on campus.

According to reports via the KU Alert system, police are looking for two suspects, both described as white males. Both of the suspects have been described as wearing dark colored sweatshirts.

A neighbor who described seeing the two men race away in a gold or tan sedan. Another neighbor saw the suspects tossing guns and ammunition into bushes near the house.

Police found a gun in the backyard as well as ammunition. Authorities are working to determine a motive
