Governor Tom Wolf Launches Medicaid Expansion in Pennsylvania
Source: PR Newswire
HARRISBURG, Pa., Feb. 9, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Governor Tom Wolf today announced Pennsylvania's transition to a simple traditional Medicaid expansion plan.
"Today is the first step toward simplifying a complicated process and ensuring hundreds of thousands of Pennsylvanians have greater access to the health insurance they need," said Governor Wolf. "Our approach will alleviate confusion, remove unnecessary red tape, and streamline the system so that people can see a doctor when they are sick and health care professionals have more time to concentrate on providing quality care."
Governor Wolf today directed the Department of Human Services (DHS) to submit a letter to the federal government withdrawing the "low-risk" health care package known as the "Healthy" option from further federal consideration.
Complications under Healthy PA resulted in people not receiving important treatment, confusion among recipients, and special populations being placed into the wrong plans, which jeopardized coverage.
<...>
While the state transitions to the less complicated and simpler full Medicaid expansion, the commonwealth will continue to provide individuals with appropriate health care coverage and no coverage will be immediately impacted by the decision. Over time, DHS will eliminate the use of the health screening tool put in place under Healthy PA and restructure benefit packages from three plans to one.

(129,430 posts)We are ecstatic here! He is not wasting any time. So much damage has been done in the state and Wolf knew that he had to hit the ground running! He was just sworn in 3 weeks ago.

(129,430 posts)and I saw a post from DonViejo indicating that he was in Amherst (where I went), so am familiar with the snow up there... But I don't recall ever having as much on the western side of the state as Don is describing right now! Am sure that the ski places on Mt. Tom are jumping up and down.
All I can say is stay warm! We actually had more snow here in Philly last year (2nd worst on record) than Boston did last year. The damage that the snow did is still being felt. The 1996 blizzard (our original worst) has now dropped to 3rd (that was when we had the 31" snowfall in 24 hours).. Back then they were dumping the snow onto the frozen river (nowadays they realize how toxic that was) -

(83,883 posts)The link was just to this storm. Two weeks ago it was 30" in 24 hours....then 5 or 6 days later a foot....now this. Yikes~
UMass Amherst, yup good school I have family members that graduated from there. As we speak I am wearing an old pair of sweats with the logo.
Good luck with all the progress your state will be making, BRDS.

(129,430 posts)and use that money to restore all the education funding that Corbett cut!
(am hoping he can get that one done through the legislature - particularly since so many red counties lost education funding themselves, which is part of why Corbett lost their vote)

(15,480 posts)And the comparison between his priorities and Corbett's is not lost on the many independents in PA.
I am in high hopes that he will swiftly veto all the crap bills the GOP is pushing through the legislature as soon as they start hitting his desk.
