NO REST FOR THE WEARY: NEW ENGLAND EXPECTING MORE SNOW

BOSTON (AP) -- Just as southern New England residents have finished digging out from the latest storm, forecasters say more snow is on the way.
National Weather Service Meteorologist Stephanie Dunten said Tuesday the region, which already has seen record snowfalls, is on track to see a fairly weak system bring 2 to 4 inches of new snow to many Massachusetts and Rhode Island communities. It's expected to happen Thursday into Friday morning.
The snowfall will vary: Cape Cod could see up to six inches while western Massachusetts and portions of Connecticut could get 1 to 3 inches.
Forecasters also are watching a much larger storm that could dump higher amounts Sunday into Monday. Dunten said it's too early to say how much that might ultimately bring.

(7,719 posts)Damned drought has our lake down. It was 72 here yesterday, so the snow would melt quickly and fill the lake...both problems solved!
Oh, you're on the hook for transporting it here...I'm running a bit low on funding but would gladly contribute a dollar or two.

(39,215 posts)are also some times when it is dumped into a lake if there is a lot. However, I am 73 years old and have never seen anything like Boston is getting.

(12,296 posts).... I remember seeing it loaded into dump trucks and taken to be dumped into the Bay or the Fox River when the piles in the parking lots got too high or corner/traffic views got obstructed.

(5,455 posts)That would be the 4th Sunday-Monday snowstorm in a row
And since it's been too cold to get any real melting of the snow to occur, the piles just get higher and higher.

(2,769 posts)When I had my house re-shingled about 5 years ago, I made sure that they put "Ice & Water Shield" all over the roof.
Makes no difference.
The ice is melting behind the fascia board under the gutters and is melting and traveling into all my windows. I have some interior wall damage already.
Every day, I spend time chipping and hair-drying the ice out the windows. I'll be doing this for weeks.
Apparently the insurance companies in MA are already swamped with ice damage claims.

(8,203 posts)- OMG- I left Braintree at 3PM - north on RT128 - headed south on I95 to RT 495 Holliston - as I came around on the ramp to I95, I remember tapping my brakes..I could see traffic backing up -here we go - I slide to the right - the right side of my car hitting the guard rail - but not before tapping the fender of the car I was trying to avoid...jostled a bit, but okay - the fellow I "bumped" got out of his car to check and make sure I was okay -side note (my dad taught us well -with regards to driving, we started at the age of 12, I remember he put blocks on the brake and excelerator when it was my turn to back the car out of the driveway - so I could reach them - many Q&A sessions along the way) - I digress - time on my hands...
This is like it happened yesterday. - we saw something happening but just didn't know what, "let's get the hell out of here" he said,..no exchange of info - there was no apparent damage - we knew WE were okay - but on a mission to get home..I wish I knew who he was -
It was an everyday ride - for me, ho-hum - 45-50 miles each way to and from Holliston..my normal route would have been to go back country roads through Dover - Sherborn - not today..as I turned North on RT 495, already having gone some 15-20 miles south on I95, - for the next 25 miles, I stayed in the worn snow lane, (not that it was all that worn - and snow coming down in buckets) - behind other cars..of course, it is getting darker - following rear lights - everyone - it was like slow motion..as I look back on it today..I can still feel and hear the snow against the under carriage of my car....the further north I went the heavier the snow..
My country road, OMG, winding cow path with tar on it..in Holliston - one more mile to go - turn left, turn left, turn left into driveway - only able to drive car into driveway a cars length...and there it sat for 4 days...
Why didn't I stay in Braintree, or stop someplace along the way - I had three kiddos at home - thank goodness my sitter lived next door - my 8-9 and 11 year olds had already brought the wood inside from the back pile and stacked extra in the garage - they knew not to start the fireplace...we still had heat - and gas cooking...but of course we lost electrical power - goodby heat - .but we could still cook..so let's bring the mattresses from the bedrooms - build a fire in the LR and laugh and play together..this is my fondest memory..I was Civil Defense essential..but last on the list because of the kiddos...I, we New Englanders are always prepared - the French toast crowd...
For those of you at home, enjoy it, these are the times to make fond memories....be sure to check on your neighbors..be well all!

(14,881 posts)Next big snow, we are officially closing off the garage and half the horseshoe driveway. We'll keep the half by the utilities, up to front door, plowed. Other half is now going to be new snow pile.
And the article is wrong. I *haven't* finished shoveling out the initial blizzard, let alone the snow on top of it. I'll get the last parts shoveled tomorrow, just ahead of the next incoming snow tomorrow afternoon and night.

(1,713 posts)Upstate SC is a natural disaster no-go zone - too far inland for hurricanes to hit hard, too far south for cold and snow, too far north for tropical heat, water is plentiful, got a mountain range to the north and west to shelter us from atmospheric extremes, even tornado activity is mild. Plus we sit on top of a huge swath of virgin forest/parkland and other protected natural resources. Whatever the cultural drawbacks to this area are, it is climatologically darn near perfect, for my preferences at least.

(63,221 posts)I am getting seriously depressed. Yesterday, they shut down the MBTA in Boston and even now that it is back up and running, we are still having problems. Getting around is such a hassle that you don't want to leave the house, but many of us are just getting stir crazy.
