Bitter cold, followed by weekend storm ahead for Mass.

Source: Boston Globe

By Aneri Pattani

Mother Nature just keeps ‘em coming!

Another storm is set to wallop the state this weekend, bringing a mix of rain and snow for more than 24 hours, the National Weather Service said.

The storm is expected to start as snow Saturday afternoon, then become a wintry mix of rain and snow Saturday night, said Alan Dunham, a weather service meteorologist. Forecasters said there is a potential for several inches of snow on the ground, but accumulations are difficult to predict due to the mixed precipitation.

As temperatures warm into the 40s Sunday, the snow will change to mostly rain and continue through the day. There is a chance for more snow Sunday evening into early Monday morning as temperatures drop below freezing, forecasters said.

The rain will raise hell with the snow pack already on the ground. Roof collapses will be the biggest concern.

Normal, way out on the pier.

During a Lake Michigan storm:

And, during winter:

Lake Michigan is a tough one in winter. And yes, that lighthouse is occupied.
At least during the clement seasons.

I live in west Michigan and I have walked out on that pier many times. I even talked to the lighthouse keeper there. It has to be an incredible experience.
