‘Wake up!’ North Dakota Republicans freak out after Muslim invited to pray at statehouse

A group of Republicans in North Dakota’s 24th District is panicking after learning that state House and Senate sessions will be opened by a benediction by a leader of the local Muslim community.

In a Facebook post, the spokesman for the group “North Dakota District 24 Republicans,” Dan Johnston, asked whether local citizens know “that Dr.Nadim Koleilat, the leader of the Bismarck Muslim Community House will be opening the ND house session in prayer on the 18 Feb. and the senate session on the 25 Feb.?”

One of his respondents, Mary Runck Nicholas, noted that the city of “Fargo has seen a huge influx of Muslims since Obama took office. Why do you think that is? They’re not working on the oil rigs, that’s for sure. They’re working in the malls, supermarkets, manufacturing companies, convenience stores. WHY are they here? It isn’t because of the weather.”

“Wake up!” Nicholas added. “We will be at war in our own country with a vicious, merciless enemy allowed to slowly slide in under the guise of ‘diversity.’”

1. And you know all the legislators prayed over by a Muslim will instantly turn into Muslims, too!

5. The amount of fear in a nation with a near trillion dollar defence and security budget is ridiculous.

A lot of us grew up with the knowledge that, at any moment, we could be less than 20 minutes warning away from massive nuclear annihilation.

In the meantime, auto fatalities have plummeted from what used to be a "normal" 20-25 per 100,000 population, to just above 10 per 100K population - and that's with increased numbers of drivers and miles driven.

A terror attack in 2001 killed 3,000 people. Auto accidents in 2012 - just that one year - killed 33,000 people. Without the various mandated safety improvements, it would have been closer to 60,000 people in 2012. But the auto industry and right wingers fought tooth and nail against things like airbags, 3-point harnesses, and so on down the line.

I am convinced we are a nation of cringing infantile nitwits.

You know what I'm afraid of? People who don't use handrails on stairs. More people in the United States are going to die this year falling down the stairs than have EVER been killed or injured by terrorism.

Use the fucking handrails on the stairs, people. They are there for a reason.

And after you use the handrails... WASH your HANDS before you pick your nose, handle your food, or wipe your eyes.

Those two things - using the handrails and washing your hands - will save more lives than worrying about "terrorism".

But that is just too goddamned complex for Americans. There is no fucking hope.

7. I've met a lot of Fargo Muslims, and I've got to say

that among them were some of the most hard-working, smart and decent people I've ever met. Many have gone through hell and lost family and friends in the process of escaping the years of conflict in Sudan.

One young guy I met while tutoring at a Moorhead community college was working a full-time job, taking full-time classes, and was the sole provider for his younger brother. He was about 23 when I met him. Worried that his brother wasn't showing much interest in post-secondary education as a junior in high school.

Another was a refugee from active fighting in Sudan - a big guy, always very friendly, smart, helping out others in a tutoring environment he spent a lot of time in. He must have gotten comfortable talking with me, because one day he told me what he had to do to make it to out of the conflict zones. I was stunned, and eventually asked him if he had anyone to talk to about his experiences. He didn't. So he talked to me.

I'd gladly trade assholes like Dan Johnston for just about any Muslim I've met in Fargo. Any time.

These cowboy Republican reps have to choose which god to support. And if they get it wrong, it's either be cast into the fiery lakes of hell by Jesus, or have Allah force you to wear fire garments and have him pour boiling water all over on your head and belly.

- Tricky choice. Although with Allah at least you get some water......
