Drilling on state lands would help pay for income-tax cuts, under GOP proposal

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A top Ohio House Republican is seeking to encourage oil and gas leases on state lands by proposing that half the money raised from it go toward income-tax cuts.
House Speaker Pro Tempore Ron Amstutz, a Wooster Republican sponsoring the measure, said he hopes that the incentive of income-tax cuts - a key goal of Gov. John Kasich's administration - will help spur energy development on state lands.
Nathan Johnson, an attorney with the Ohio Environmental Council, said his group believes the legislation, House Bill 23, would be "bad policy," noting that Ohio ranks near the bottom among states when it comes to state lands per capita.
"We have very little [state lands] to begin with, and we'd like to think that some things are special and should be off limits to industrial development," Johnson said.

Sure, what could go wrong.
My God, this must be like a wet-dream fantasy to the right-wingers. Tax cuts funded by oil drilling. If they could somehow tie a restriction to abortion somewhere in this proposal, the Repukes would have achieved Nirvana!
I get so fucking frustrated sometimes. I feel like Tesio in The Godfather; "forgive me Don Corleone, but with you gone, there won't be one place in Brooklyn where I can hang my hat"
The onslaught of Repuke attacks on everything from labor rights to the environment, to our social contract is non-stop. It's like a Blitzkrieg...and yet, we still have folks here who claim that both parties are the same, and we shouldn't vote for Democrats because we "saw one of them talking to a Republican 4 years ago."
It's fucking maddening! If we want to save what is left of this country and the American Dream, we'd better get off our asses and push the fucking "D" lever in EVERY ELECTION from Dogcatcher to President.

That's all we heard in the run up to the election.
That was 31 years ago. Well, it passed and today, the Kansas City, Missouri school district is generally considered mediocre by some (it lost accreditation in 2000 and 2011), and, at best, "average" by Great Schools with a rating of "5 out of 10."
Just imagine where KCMO schools would be today if it wasn't for all that more money!

Why are repubs so stuck on oil and gas when other countries are showing how great they are doing with solar power?

((My use of the word 'rape' in this context has to do with our beautiful country)

It will work out great. We'll get all that money from other states to keep their waste.
You know...Like oil from Iraq paid for Bush the Lesser's and Darth Cheney's war.

(2,004 posts)These people are criminals and what they are doing is illegal except there is no one to hold them accountable in Ohio. The Ohio news media is held by right wingers who benefit from the GOP thefts of public funds and property. The national media ignores the state completely. There are dozens of GOP scams, if brought to the light of day, would end this reign of criminality. The public in Ohio is completely ignorant of how their tax dollars are being stolen.
Please take a look at what is being done to the Ohio Public Utilities Commission: http://www.plunderbund.com/2015/02/21/as-kasich-pads-puco-with-another-republican-state-rep-leland-has-plan-for-bipartisan-commission/
"John Kasich just appointed another Republican to the five-member Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO), even though state law requires no more than three members of the commission can belong to same political party. In his quest to control the commission and crush Ohios renewable energy standards, Kasich has shown just how easy it is to circumvent this law and use the PUCO to promote his highly-partisan agenda."
"Kasichs Republican appointees to the PUCO voted to block the Turning Point solar project, which would have been the largest solar array installation east of the Mississippi, after hearing complaints from FirstEnergy. FirstEnergy and its employees have donated more than $100,000 to Kasich and Republicans over the past four years."
The destruction of Ormet was to get rid of a strong union and good paying jobs in a rural area too far for the media to actually bother to travel and see the economic destruction of this community.
"Kasichs Republican appointees also failed to work with Ormet on a temporary rate adjustment that could have saved over 1,000 jobs. At the same time they allowed companies like AEP and Duke Energy to increase rates on residential consumers and small business owners."
