Officials: 3 dead, 2 officers wounded in shooting in Georgia
By KATE BRUMBACK, Associated Press | February 23, 2015 | Updated: February 23, 2015 4:36pm

DECATUR, Ga. (AP) — A former law enforcement officer who had lost his job because of allegations of domestic violence shot his ex-wife to death and wounded a sheriff and deputy Sunday at a home in northeastern Georgia, authorities said.

Anthony Giaquinta, 41, fatally shot his ex-wife, Kathy Giaquinta Smith, at the home in Clarkesville, Russell Andrews with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation told reporters Monday. The body of Steven Thomas Singleton, 45, was found outside the home, and authorities believe Giaquinta shot him as well.

Giaquinta initially fled but was later found dead outside the home. Authorities believe he died from a gunshot wound suffered in an exchange of shots with a sheriff's deputy, Andrews said.

"We think it is a long-simmering domestic dispute that had been going on between Anthony Giaquinta and Kathy Giaquinta Smith," Andrews said. "We do think it involves the personal relationship between the two of them and possibly her relationship with other people."

Knives, hands and feet, hammers, broom sticks, you name it....gun ownership has never caused a person to want to kill another...just a handy tool to carry out the will...

Which is why armies are not equipped with knives, hammers and broomsticks...but with the most excellent killing machines.

A gun is a machine designed to kill..your choice if one chooses not to recognize the obvious.

The killer doesn't reflect, they grab the closest or most convenient tool and tend to overkill the victim...There definitely is a slightly larger than the general public wild eyed gun nuts with short fuses. Still not a high enough percentage to justify any laws beyond what we have. The vast majority (high 90%s) of legal gun owners will never commit a crime with their guns, and the vast majority of criminal homicide with guns is committed by people illegally in possession of the gun...what do you do? Worry about the gun which could and often is replaced with a can of beans, or make mental health services widely available to anyone who needs them...

Within vast case law defining the 2nd amendment. The only argument for infringement beyond the perimeters set by case law is a high statistical public risk....the numbers aren't there...on the other hand nearly every person who does such things could benefit from psychological professionals. Return to a policy of psych exams of all domestic violence arrestees...

An ex-cop in NY just killed his two daughters, three dogs and himself. Maybe someone would have escaped if he just had a knife.
