Chinese diplomat tells West to consider Russia's security concerns over Ukraine

Source: Reuters

(Reuters) - Western powers should take into consideration Russia's legitimate security concerns over Ukraine, a top Chinese diplomat has said in an unusually frank and open display of support for Moscow's position in the crisis.

Qu Xing, China's ambassador to Belgium, was quoted by state news agency Xinhua late on Thursday as blaming competition between Russia and the West for the Ukraine crisis, urging Western powers to "abandon the zero-sum mentality" with Russia.

He said the "nature and root cause" of the crisis was the "game" between Russia and Western powers, including the United States and the European Union.
..

His comments were an unusually public show of understanding from China for the Russian position. China and Russia see eye-to-eye on many international diplomatic issues but Beijing has generally not been so willing to back Russia over Ukraine.

The West aided and abetted the overthrow of the democratically elected government of Ukraine, which was the parent of this whole mess.

Not as credible, hardly credible actually.

Alternet offers one link of "proof"--to RT.com! AKA the Putin TV PR site that started the conspiracy theory.

William Blum list is just a list, with Ukraine at the end and no more. Fail.

Foreign Policy link is behind a pay wall but given the date on the URL of your link, it's from before Maidan and so probably not relevant!

Sorry, no, as I said, it's a debunked tinfoil hat stuff.

references to Putin and RT. None of the sites I pasted ever pimped for the Iraq War, which is more than you can say for that bastion of status quo respectability, the Times. As for Politifact: I always get a kick out of this: http://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/watch/politifact-fails-again-destroy-277552195924

None of the sites I used offered "proof" of their positions, since no one knows what the hell is really going on. To suggest that their information is not relevant rises no higher than the level of your opinion. To further suggest that a list is not relevant because it is a list is just silly. This forum does not lend itself to documentation of a hundred years of US foreign intervention, although that is actually part of our history whether represented by a list or not.

I'm sorry, but you need to grasp this concept: A point of view doesn't debunk itself. Because establishment media claims to posit facts and show proof doesn't make it so. Your argument rests upon a appeal to authority fallacy and an ad hominem dismissal of alternate media. You have debunked nothing but your own projection of objectivity.

McCain Points To ‘Dramatic Change’ In Chinese-Built Islands

WASHINGTON: What began with a tiny artificial island built by China to stake a concrete claim in the South China Sea is fast on its way to becoming 600 acres of at least seven islands spread across the South China Sea. One of the most impressive is so-called Fiery Cross Island, the permanent structure above complete with an air strip and, perhaps, the ability to permanently station advanced weapon systems there to patrol the skies and seas.

Sen. John McCain made a point of asking Director of National Intelligence James Clapper about the Chinese actions just before the end of this morning’s Senate Armed Services Committee hearing on worldwide threats, calling the Chinese actions “a rather dramatic change.”

DNI Clapper told the SASC “this is a worrisome trend of the Chinese because of the tensions this is going to create in the South China Sea. They have been very aggressive about it.”

The biggest worry about these efforts by the Chinese is that they could base advanced aircraft and ships at some of these locations, trying to enforce their so-called Nine-Dash Line claiming most of the South China Sea. That would grant them the presumptive ability to block international shipping in an area every other country in the region — including the United States — says are international waters. It would also provide China much greater range to project power through the region.
