Kellogg Co. has rejected a Grain Millers union initiative to start early negotiations on the master contract that covers four cereal plants, the Battle Creek union president said Monday.
Trevor Bidelman, president of the Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers International Union Local 3G in Battle Creek, said presidents of the four union locals met with Kellogg management last week and offered to negotiate the master contract well in advance of its expiration in November.
The union offered to bargain over ways to help Kellogg stay competitive as cereal sales decline, he said.
In a statement to the Enquirer, Marty Carroll, Kellogg senior vice president for Kellogg North America supply chain, said the company is willing to hold talks on the existing contract.
