Darren Wilson will not face federal charges in Michael Brown shooting

Source: The Guardian

Darren Wilson, the white police officer whose fatal shooting of an unarmed black 18-year-old in Ferguson, Missouri, led to months of unrest and revived a debate on race and law enforcement in the US, will not face federal criminal charges.

The Department of Justice announced on Wednesday that after a six-month inquiry it has concluded no civil rights charges should be brought against Wilson for killing Michael Brown. A grand jury in St Louis decided last November not to indict Wilson on state charges.

The decision concludes the second half of a politically-charged investigation into Wilson’s shooting of Brown on 9 August following an altercation in a residential side-street.

It was widely expected by protesters who allege that Brown’s killing was a criminal act.

They would have to prove he intentionally tried to deny Michael Brown's civil rights.
With many witnesses saying that he kept shooting as he advanced on Brown who was already hit multiple times, it appears that they had evidence that would make it to a jury decision. This is another shameful, embarrassing, political decision, that is downright wrong!
In light of the findings against the Ferguson police dept., it is another act of discrimination perpetrated by our government!

The DOJ Civil Rights task force has been saying for years that the bar is too high on prosecuting civil rights violations when it involves the death of an individual and race may be involved. The laws were created after the dragging death and beheading of James Byrd in Texas. However the DOJ does have other tools at their disposal and the investigation and report of the Ferguson Police Department is one of them. It does not lessen the loss of Michael Brown but it paints a picture of a department that is clearly bigoted if not out right racist. Their actions have been shown the light of day and it isn't pretty.
