Sen. Elizabeth Warren wows firefighters union meeting

Source: Miami Herald-MCCLATCHY WASHINGTON BUREAU

BY DAVID LIGHTMAN

Snip: Webb and Sanders offered messages of strong support for middle-class workers and unions. But Warren was the clear favorite.

“Why is there no money to make our country work?” she asked to cheers. “I’ll tell you why. It’s because the game is rigged. It’s because oil companies have great lobbyists.” She blasted away at NASCAR owners, thoroughbred breeders and big banks.

“They won’t give up their special perks,” she insisted. “The only thing that will make a real difference is if we work together.”

After she spoke, Warren gave about 40 Massachusetts firefighters a fiery pep talk at a nearby hall. “I’ve got your back,” she said, almost shouting, “and I’ll do everything I can for you.”

FULL story at link.

After Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., spoke at the International Association of Firefighters Legislative Conference in Washington, Monday, March 9, 2015, she gave about 40 Massachusetts firefighters a fiery pep talk at a nearby hall. “I’ve got your back,” she said, almost shouting, “and I’ll do everything I can for you.” PABLO MARTINEZ MONSIVAIS AP

This time, 8 years ago, Barack Obama had already spent the better part of a year organizing and lining up support. It doesn't matter that nobody voted until 2016; the reality is that you've got to be organized and financially supported long before that.

Is that your picture of Democracy?

FWIW, Warren or anyone else w/o funds now can raise tons of money, $100M or more, if they have the right message.

Warren has it.

Clinton has excuses and no charm or message whatsoever.

I HAVE said that, political reality being what it is. ANY Presidential candidate will need to raise multiple millions of dollars for a campaign, and since Warren ISN'T doing that, you'll need to fill in the gap if you want her to have a campaign that'll be successful.

Warren would be 71 in 2020.
I'm not sure she'd want the grueling primary at that age.

I don't care for the whole "coronation" of the party's candidate. Even if it's your "dream" presidentaial candidate, he or she is far better prepared by some level of competition in the primary. Not full-on mortal combat mind you, but Obama vs Hillary made Obama a better candidate. Perhaps if Al Gore had been challenged more thoroughly, the 2000 election would have been a landslide rather than a win so close it could be stolen.

I'd much prefer Warren to HRC, but if Hillary is to be the nominee, she needs to work the kinks out of her political teams operations. Early indications are not encouraging. Perhaps a response to a baseless attack could be countered by the next news cycle in 1992, but in 2015 you have to be nearly instantaneous. Get out ahead of misinfornation and GOP propaganda, don't let it direct the narrative.

I don't think Warren or Bernie would take that BS for 2 seconds. If HRC s going to be POTUS, she better get in the ring and start kicking some ass chop-chop. Stop taking punches and start throwing them.

The Party needs to start working for the people & attracting new younger brains & energy God knows. But in the corporate age & the era of eternal student debt I wonder how sharp young people will be attracted to govt. service- all part of the GOP plan to demean & kill govt.- of, by & for the people.

“I’ve got your back,” she said, almost shouting,

At some point, if Warren's style of delivery when speaking comes into question, that description from the Miami Herald will be resurrected. "Senator Warren's aggressive tenor in the speech reminded reporters of the time she was speaking to firefighters and 'shouted' at them."

that 44% of his union is Republican. That's a fairly large percentage, though not surprising.

They had better be wary of Republican governors who want to take away their pensions, close down some stations, and get by with fewer firefighters.

She can capture a crowd like no other. My husband caught her on a talk show by accident and was captivated. He's been paying attention like never before. I could never get that out of him, Warren did.

She can win! She can win! And she will make mincemeat of every Republican lie and people will listen. I love Bernie Sanders, but Warren can win.

The median wage for a firefighter is $45,600/yr.

Someone is more than a little out-of-touch with the people who actually work in this country,

I'm nothing but supportive of these myself but every thing she has been doing lately smacks of pandering to the demographic.

Her time in the Silicon Valley, and even the first question that came to her this week at the beginning of her crappy response to the email scandal.

"And my second follow-up question is, if you were a man today, would all of this fuss being made be made?"

OMG, that had to be planted. She got to select the questioners, right?

I'm sick of her.

Well hell, what good democrat doesn't support womens' rights? We all do.
