NRA chief warns of ongoing risks at wrecked Fukushima No. 1 plant

Source: Kyodo

The situation still remains risky at the crippled Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant four years after a series of meltdowns, the chairman of Japan’s nuclear regulator said Wednesday, vowing utmost efforts to avoid further trouble there.

“There have been quite a few accidents and problems at the Fukushima plant in the past year, and we need to face the reality that they are causing anxiety and anger among people in Fukushima,” Shunichi Tanaka told personnel at the Nuclear Regulation Authority on the fourth anniversary of the nuclear disaster.

Mishaps still occur regularly at the radiation-leaking complex in Fukushima Prefecture, where decommissioning work is continuing after it was heavily damaged in the massive earthquake and tsunami that hit the Tohoku region on March 11, 2011.

In the latest revelation of a series of contaminated water leaks from the seaside plant, late last month Tokyo Electric Power Co., the plant operator, said highly radioactive rainwater flows into the Pacific Ocean every time it rains.

You just articulated one reason.

This isn't a new trend. Over 30 years ago, I came to realize that television was highly selective in the news they choose to present, and I have not watched a TV news show since. Based on your comments, nothing has changed.

Print, radio, and social media share the same
"highly selective" bias as network broadcast.
They are owned by the same interests.

Add to that, it's a "media bubble".
The message is always managed and controlled.

There is an undeniable lack of left-leaning
concerns represented in media, and as
publicly expressed by elected representatives

Figure out how to safely decommission all the current nuclear plants, and replace them with safe renewable energy alternatives.

Figure out how to safely render nuclear waste and material inert.

Sad that public relations has become so advanced that news has moved on to other issues instead of staying focused on this disaster.

There are so many nukes of that same design that should be decommissioned.

From the tsunami.

It is sad to see no thought given to that.
