Senate plans March 24 action on Iran deal
Source: Jerusalem Post
Senate Foreign Relations Committee leadership, both Democrat and Republican, will move forward on March 24 with legislation that would provide Congress with oversight powers on any future nuclear deal with Iran.
"That's the window the world was given, and Congress is acting within that window," one Senate aide close to the matter told The Jerusalem Post on Saturday. "Post March 24 and absent an agreement, there is no mechanism left to further delay the legislative process from moving forward."
The committee will mark up the Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act of 2015 at that time without delay, several aides confirm, despite an apparent disagreement over precisely when the deadline is for world powers to reach a political framework agreement with Iran over its nuclear work.
Ten Democratic senators agreed to join their Republican colleagues in support of the legislation on the 24th, though diplomats in Lausanne, Switzerland, are working toward a March 31 deadline.

(70,516 posts)The President and Sec. Kerry are working under the powers granted to them
by the US Constitution. Treason, sedition, or what have you these are
un-American bastards who would rather have more wars or Iran w/a nuclear
weapon then let the President have any sort of success.

(19,565 posts)Senator Robert Menendez, Senator Tim Kaine, Senator Joe Donnelly, Senator Heidi Heitkamp, Senator Bill Nelson, Senator Michael F. Bennet, all Dems. And there's also Senator Angus S. King Jr who is in our caucus, but technically an Independent, also on it. So, that's seven from our caucus. I'm not sure who the other three are. Even with ten of them supporting it it's not enough to prevent a veto, they'd be short three votes. Let's hope it stays that way.

(22,913 posts)They have both meddled to support new Iran sanctions in the past. I especially expect Chuck Schumer to sign on, and Kirsten Gillibrand has swung that way in the past. If they vote for the Corker bill it is just one vote short of being veto proof.

(23,105 posts)Who are these Dems that are so bribed by the MIC that they would sabotage their president and really some other important nations as well. We are not in this alone, are they so stupid and venal they don't understand that or just so bought out they just don't care? I really think it's the later, with some of the former thrown in for good measure.
This is what makes me sick about the present system. Someone can call themselves a Dem, but still vote with Repugs on important and controversial issues. War makes money for lots of folks, so they forget everything they know and go for the gold. Menendez and the 9 other so-called Dems should be ashamed of themselves. I'm ashamed to have them with a D behind their names when they do nothing to uphold Dem ideals.

(19,565 posts)Saying they would postpone their vote until until March 24th. This was due to Tehran Tom's letter, or maybe it was Netanyahu's whistle stop in congress? I can't recall right now. I've slept since then.
So, this isn't unexpected, or even shocking, to see this reported. It also isn't breaking news, but more of a final hours attempt to make Netanyahu look better judging by the source.
