Nevada Bill Would Allow Sick Pets to Use Medical Marijuana

Source: ABC News

Pets might soon be able to use pot under a bill introduced Tuesday in the Nevada Legislature.

Democratic Sen. Tick Segerblom is sponsoring the measure that would allow animal owners to get marijuana for their pet if a veterinarian certifies the animal has an illness that might be alleviated by the drug.

Segerblom said he's concerned that some animals might have adverse reactions, but "you don't know until you try," he said.

Some veterinarians who have given cannabis to sick and dying pets say it has relieved their symptoms, although the substance hasn't been proven as a painkiller for animals.

the person takes a puff, then exhales into kitteh's face.

I have employed a similar technique with a friend who has cerebral palsy.

"Doc, my cat has glaucoma. I think he needs a weed card."

'How the hell can you tell your cat has glaucoma?'

"Oh man...he flops over on his side without any warning because he can't see straight. He keeps his eyes closed all day long because the glaucoma's hurting him. He sits in boxes so the other cats can't sneak up on him because of the glaucoma. And he sits in the sink because the coolness of the porcelain relieves his pain."

'Are you sure he's not just doing those things because he's a cat?'

"No, it's glaucoma. I KNOW it's glaucoma. Come on Doc, help a fella out."

It's already set for the ballot.

The initiative has been drafted, the signatures gathered, everything approved.l The legislature had a chance to just go ahead and legalize it itself, but it punted, so it now goes to the voters.
