Seattle Mayor prohibits Indiana travel for city employees

Source: Associated Press

11:22 a.m. PDT March 28, 2015

Seattle Mayor Ed Murray on Saturday announced his decision to prohibit the use of city funds for travel by all city employees on city business to the State of Indiana after the passage of S.B. 101.

The new law, which was signed by Governor Pence on Thursday, has the potential to legalize discrimination against LGBT people and others based on religious beliefs, a press release from Murray said.

"Seattleites know that discrimination has no place in our City – that's just equality '101'," said Ed Murray.

More than a dozen states this year are considering measures aimed at preventing government from infringing on people's religious beliefs. Supporters say the proposals mirror decades-old protections in federal law, while opponents say they're a license for state-endorsed discrimination against the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community.

The Pence Fence. Just so everyone knows who wants to travel to Indiana that they are entering a zero tolerance, religious fundamentalist state.

He'll declare something needs to happen. Then says, "And that hasn't happened yet." but he says it to me like there's still time for me to change my Atheist Ways before it's too late.

He went nuts when I said, as an ex carpenter, Jesus would fit right in as a host of "This Old House.".

There will be an apocalypse alright. Due to global warming, overpopulation and allowing the one percent to suck up all the wealth in the world while polluting water, land and air.

The same religious lunatics always talking about the apocalypse are the ones bringing it about with their anti birth control fever and by voting republican.

Not sure how much business City of Seattle employees do in Indiana, but love another public commitment like this.

"This isn't personal, Murray says. He'd do the same for other groups of people like women and racial minorities and likens Indiana's law to the the same discrimination outlawed in 1964.

"I'm not doing this because I'm a gay man," he said. "You cannot say, 'You can't come into my restaurant because you're black and it's my religious belief not to serve you. That is a settled question."

Mayor Murray is married; his husband's name is Michael.

I love living in such a progressive area!!!! I thanked my parents many times for moving us from Indiana to the Seattle area way back in 1955.
