Former VP Quayle 'hurt' by national criticism of Indiana
Source: Indy Star
GREENCASTLE Former Vice President Dan Quayle said Tuesday that Gov. Mike Pence and opponents of the controversial "religious freedom" law need to step back and have a civil discussion about how to fix it.
"I do think that we ought to take a little bit of a pause here and see what the bill really does," Quayle said, "see what the fix can be and have an intelligent discourse on two very fundamental principles that are wrapped around this issue the principles of religious freedom and religious liberty and the principle of nondiscrimination, that there should not be any tolerance for discrimination against one's race, religion or sexual orientation."
Quayle, a 1969 graduate of DePauw University, spoke to reporters Tuesday while on a previously scheduled visit to the university in Greencastle, about an hour west of Indianapolis.
He did not recommend a specific course of action on how to fix the legislation. When asked, he said adding sexual orientation as a protected class is an option, but he said he didn't have an opinion on that issue.

(174 posts)Dan Quayle has, for the most part, disappeared from public view. I wish so many of his washed-up political cronies would do the same. But, no, they just keep hanging around, giving their out-of-date opinions on everything, even though they are yesterday's news. I mean you Santorum, Palin, Cheney, etc.

According to Sharlet, Christian reconstructionists want to subvert democracy into a far right theocracy where the Church has the ultimate veto power over everyday aspects of your personal lives. They would make Afghanistan look modern and liberated by comparison. Their motto: "Convert or die."
