Two sisters missing nearly 2 weeks in Michigan survived on cheese puffs, Girl Scout cookies

Source: Omaha World Herald

By Jay Withrow

A Nebraska woman and her sister from Oklahoma who had been missing for almost two weeks in Michigan were found Friday in the Upper Peninsula.

The two were spotted in a remote area in their SUV, which had gotten stuck April 11 and where they’d stayed since.

Sgt. Kevin Dowling of the Michigan State Police said the women were “alive and well and in good condition.’’

The pair survived on cheese puffs and eight boxes of Girl Scout cookies, as well as snow for water, according to the Grand Rapids Press.

You gave me the perfect opening. For entertainment they read the packaging inserts and can now perform abortions in the wild, and are now lesbian.

I am glad they are fine. Gps's are great if you know not to blindly trust them. If anyone is coming to my house for the 1st time I always tell them: I am the 1st house on the left. If you listen to GPS it will put you at my neighbor's house. They don't like that. They chased me out one night when I crawled into bed with them. (joking)

Devil's advocate: The average person can go several weeks to a month without food. The cheese puffs and Girl Scout cookies didn't save their lives, they just made their stomach's a little more comfortable. They would have survived just fine for two weeks without food.

Water, however, is another matter.

REF:

There is insufficient scientific data on exactly how long people can live without food. Although the length of time obviously varies with an individual's percentage of body fat and general health, one medical study estimates that in adults complete starvation leads to death within 8 to 12 weeks.

Many people have fasted for health and religious reasons for anywhere form 1 week to 40 days. Google "benefits of fasting" for more info.

Don't get me wrong, I'm very glad they are safe and sound, but it wasn't the cheese puffs an cookies that kept them alive.

People disconnected from nature, and used to three meals a day don't realize that the human body evolved to deal with feast and famine. If two weeks without food were fatal the human race would never have survived.

low blood sugar problems DO run the risk of passing out without having
food for more than 12 hours. Not to say they wouldn't survive, but it's
no joke when a person with this problem has to "fast" for a medical
test and only drink water. It is very, very scary.

They had been visiting relatives in the town that I am living... Ishpeming. They said they were going to check out a couple of waterfalls along the route across the Upper Peninsula on their way to St. Ignace. It was pretty mindboggling to me that they couldn't find them as there are not to many different routes from Ishpeming to St. Ignace. In fact... only two.

Where they made their mistake was checking out a remote area north of where they had indicated they were going. This is a very remote spot area of the U.P. and at this time of the year very few people would attempt to travel there.

I am happy they were found... everyone in our small town were concerned. Especially since just a few days ago they found 3 people dead in a burned SUV in a remote area north of Escanaba.

Just remember to let the air out of the spare, or it will blow up most violently.

If you don't carry extra gasoline, then I'd recommend packing rum-balls instead of Girl Scout cookies.

Good thing they were found.

Cars don't come with cigarette lighters anymore. More and more people don't carry a lighter or matches. Is there any elephant shit near by. Quest for Fire. I guess they could have rubbed sticks together to get a fire going.

Cut a couple of wires loose, attach them to the battery, and bump them together for sparks. Or, as I once learned from a TV show, pull one of your light bulbs and wires free, break the glass, dribble a little gasoline over the top, and turn the light on. The filament will immediately incinerate, lighting the gas and any other kindling you have alongside it. This will work even when the battery is exceptionally low.
