Indonesia 'executes eight prisoners' for drugs offences

Source: BBC

A group of eight prisoners has reportedly been executed for drugs offences in Indonesia.

The executions took place in Besi prison on the island of Nusakambangan early on Wednesday morning local time.

Among those executed were Australians Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran. Earlier, the men's families were allowed to see them for the last time.

...snip...

A Filipino woman also due to be executed was reportedly spared at the last minute.

Indonesia is applying the "zero tolerance" policy applied by Singapore and Malaysia for possession of narcotics in any amount.

Beautiful country with some of the most wonderful people I have met in my life.

But yeah they don't screw around when it comes to this stuff.

DO NOT GO THERE WITH THE INTENTION OF BREAKING THEIR DRUG LAWS. (not directed at you)

I taped "Midnight Express" the other night, which I've seen before, but just the timing is interesting.

We have similar signs, though they only threaten arrest, at public schools.

"Drugs" means so many different things. Does it mean prescription medicines that are narcotic? Does it mean non-narcotic medicines? Does it mean over the counter drugs, like aspirin? The article doesn't even begin to explore these questions.

All over the world, police love killing people, but at least there, you get due process and they let your loved ones say goodbye before you die.

This is a Government policy. Each of these nation's has an elected Government who came up with this.

In the U.S., particularly if you're black, the cops kill you long before you get to prison.
