Bridgegate: Charges in George Washington Bridge scandal to be announced today

Source: Newark Star-Ledger

NEWARK — Charges will be filed this morning in the Bridgegate scandal, following a long-running federal probe into the 2013 lane closures at the George Washington Bridge that were allegedly orchestrated as an act of political retribution.

The U.S. Attorney's office did not indicate who may be facing possible indictment, or specify the nature of the charges, saying only there were developments related to the 16-month investigation being announced today.

A press conference has been scheduled for 1 p.m. today in Newark, following what was called "a proceeding of interest in a criminal matter" related to the investigation scheduled for 11 a.m. before U.S. District Judge Susan D. Wigenton.

At least one of those charged in the high-profile case reportedly will plead guilty this morning. According to Bloomberg, David Wildstein, a key figure in the investigation, will enter a guilty plea. At his Montville home, a white SUV could be seen leaving at 5 a.m. and moving down the street at high speed.

Christie in particular. Either they set up a payment plan for her bank account or they threatened her with dire consequences.

but I do know that Wildstein's lawyer and Kelly's lawyer are both top notch criminal defense attorneys and have worked together many times in the past. Kelly's been very quiet. She's a single mother of 4 with no job, few prospects, a big legal bill and was thrown under the bus by Christie. I'd say there are pretty good odds that both Wildstein and Kelly have agreed to cooperate and we will find out what the terms of that cooperation are today. The U.S. Attorney didn't put this effort in to get these two-not when there's so much more out there.

These two are not taking the fall, especially after Christie trashed both of them. Remember Christie's press release "When a bombshell isn't a bombshell"? http://images.politico.com/global/2014/02/01/christie1.html 5 reasons why you shouldn't believe David Wildstein? He clearly saw this day coming and it isn't going to be pretty.

I HOPE they refuse to take the fall. I would LOVE to see christie face some genuine shit on this. It's impossible to believe that, in the kind of climate and tone HE set in that office, as the bully and in-yer-face asshole and political hard-baller he is, that they were out there as lone wolves, going rogue or something. Seems rather clear, they were doing his bidding as they very clearly understood it. As Michael Dukakis once said - "the fish rots from the head."

It would be great to get Christie, but it won't be easy - as a former prosecutor, he knew what to say and how to say it.

Glad you're here! I think we all hope that, but with reservations. We're all too accustomed to seeing these lice escape or otherwise get out of it. They never have to face the music. But it'd be awfully nice to see. We haven't had that kind of satisfaction since Nixon. And we're LONG overdue for more.

hopefully he'll share his diet secrets with Christie; being under indictment and months of testimony and questioning.

I hope he sings like the birds of spring..

and Christie found it! Not to be mean but it looks like he reached the limits of the weight loss surgery. I think he's been feeling the pressure lately despite his public act of whistling past the graveyard. Just as a disclaimer, I repeat that cheap jokes about his appearance have no relevance. His misdeeds are what needs to be the focused upon. They are substantial and should not be diminished by having any attention diverted to the superficial and insignificant.

but, as he skates though scandal after scandal, sometimes I feel like that's all we've got left. I would much prefer the public shaming of a prison jumpsuit or even resignation, but we just can't seem to get there, so I'll settle for whatever snark I can muster for this job killing, worker slamming, teacher shaming theiving asshole.

I am SO tired of seeing these schmucks wriggling out of the hot seat. SO tired of seeing these assholes get away with it, again and again and again and again. Maybe that's why I'm taking such joy in the actions and statements of that prosecutor in Baltimore. She was quite brilliant!
