N. Korea Says It Tested Ballistic Missile From Submarine

By THE ASSOCIATED PRESSMAY 8, 2015, 9:51 P.M. E.D.T.

SEOUL, South Korea — North Korea said Saturday it has successfully test-fired a newly developed ballistic missile from a submarine in what would be the latest display of the country's advancing military capability.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un personally attended the test launching of what he described as a "world-level strategic weapon," the official Korean Central News Agency said. The report did not reveal the exact timing and location of the launch.

Kim praised the test launch as an "eye-opening success" and declared that the North Korea now has a weapon capable of "striking and wiping out in any waters the hostile forces infringing upon the sovereignty and dignity of (North Korea)."

On Kim's orders, the submarine submerged and after a while a missile soared into the sky from underwater, the agency said.

South Korea's defense ministry said last year that it believed North Korea was developing technologies for launching ballistic missiles off submarines.

I wonder how loud their submarines are, and I wonder if we're always 1500 yards behind them with fast attack boats.

Wow, what an unexpected blast from the past. For a brief moment I could feel myself turning the handle crank.

Never launched any missiles with it though.

If by some unknown reason I was the President, my order to the U.S. Navy would be to sink any North Korean sub as soon as it got into international waters, no exception.
It would be a public announcement, along with opening the covers on the U.S. ICBM complexes to show we mean business. It's time to kick Humpty Dumpty in the nuts...

I would not make a public announcement. I would just do it. Accidents happen all the time and there would be no way to know why the sub sank.

I'd worry more about them putting a nuke on a boat and sailing into a (U.S.) west coast harbor.

First thing I thought when seeing the red stars on the torpedo tubes was Soviet submarine. I've been apart of a sub refit and ours were light years ahead of that one and that has been 30 years ago! That sub has to be 60 years old.
